Parking etiquette a question

What with the PVC v MH chat re the sliding doors it reminds me of the CAMC forum threads of Caravans v all MH. Yes some individuals are not considerate regardless of what they are doing on the pitch, I don’t like the door slamming/closing of any door or the unnecessary engine running or the inconsiderate positioning of the BBQ but hey ho life must go on. We’ve ordered our first PVC with a soft close and electrically assisted closing solely to be more considerate to all others.
Back to the thread, we tend to park whichever way is best for us & this often involves the slope of the pitch, general wind direction & sun direction etc but we would also try to avoid our hab door side facing & parallel to another’s but at times that cannot be avoided. Since most of our camping is abroad we are able to be more flexible on how we pitch with less rules & the abundance of pitches generally resolving most problems 😊

For some vehicles, sliding doors seem to require a reasonable slam to close so the cental locking works; closing it too gently prevents all doors being locked. Too hard and the sliding door can bounce out of the lock setting position so it requires another attempt. It isn't always easy to do first time and can be more difficult from within the vehicle.

I guess in most situations they are not slammed frequently to p*ss folk off but some users could be more considerate as to how often they need to open and close the door... Perhaps it doesn't have to be closed securely if you are just popping in and out of the van to get another drink or similar reason.

I have a Dethleffs with habitation door on off-side. On arriving at a pitch (especially if no choices left) I consider:

sun rise/sun set
satellite dish signal
trees
slope of pitch
vicinity of fresh water
room for awning
how close facilities are (shower block, waste, chemical waste point)
etc

Just because existing funsters arrived before me shouldn’t determine which way my door opens. If they’re that sensitive they should perhaps reconsider if this lifestyle is what they really want.

What bugs me is those who walk across my pitch with their dogs, their toilet, to refill their barrels etc when there is plenty of space to walk around.

My pitch is my Castle 😜👍🏻👍🏻 I have to agree with you there.

When funsters park next to strangers, do you park,so that you avoid, where possible, that your habitation door is not directly opposite your neighbour?
I appreciate that depending on whether the vehicle is a Continental make, or a home produced model, that the doors may be on opposite sides.
I’vejust had a Dethelffs park next to me in a Pilote. They then after an hour or so turned their vehicle around and parked so that our open doors meant we were looking into one another. I moved without commenting. They then moved to occupy the space I vacated!
What would you do if there was a parking space between two vans, one a European build and the other a UK build, and in each case both of their doors were facing this vacant space, would you not park there even if it were the only space left? In my opinion the view from your windscreen is the most valuable, why be so fussy about where your door faces unless you want to creep in and out of your van without being seen by your van neighbour! We all have to live with these differences in vehicle design, just get on with enjoying what you have instead of getting wound up over trivial matters like which side your neighbours doors are facing. The only time this really matters is if you are parking a metre apart, and even then its not the end of the world!
!

On an aire at Uzerche (one of our favourites) I parked up with the rear doors (PVC) facing the wonderful view, not realizing that the hab doors faced each other. We had a black door screen anyway, and were using the rear doors for access. The neighbour returned, and exclaimed "Porte a Porte" and stomped around in a temper. I apologised, and asked if he wanted me to turnaround. His wife intervened, and said don't bother. So I didn't. I spoke to the French neighbours on the other side, who thought it funny. But SWMBO insisted we go to a restaurant, as she didn't like the bad vibes. It cost us £50!!

Well said! Rules regarding which side doors should face are impractical (my caravan has a door and awning strip on both sides) unless managed very carefully. I can see a 'domino effect' taking place to correct a broken 'flow'.
For me, I want to relax and escape arbitrary regulation. I will overlook the way that others behave, just as I hope they might for me.

There are a lot of people who cant open the door on their coffins who would like to be in a similar situation, be grateful that you are able to worry about little things by comparison. i woke up the right side of the grass for that I am thankful.

We park in whatever manner gives the best view from the rear u lounge. People can choose to look into it hab door; they will be in for a nasty shock as the shower door opens opposite it. 😂

Does that suggest that there are some who can open their coffin door?

You don't see an issue with saying people should should re think camping if they don't enjoy sitting outside eating dinner 2 ft away from strangers all evening on their own pitch but it's OK for you to be bugged by someone walking through the same space for 3 seconds?

Do any PVC owners realised how loud and how bloody annoying a bloody sliding door is

Of course we do, thats why we slam it two or three times just to make sure its closed properly
I think they must all be stone deaf.
Pardon :giggler:

Doe 'off-side' refer to the steering position or the way you drive on the road?

I have German-built UK-registered MH with the only door on the right side (looking forward) and RHD. I live and drive on the European Continent.

Which is my 'offside'? Just asking.

Geoff

Depends on which side of the road you’re driving. ;)

I think we may need to get VAR involved!!!

We had a VW van with smokers who just decided to join us at a Spanish camper aire. Usually, visitors reverse in so that their fridges are not exposed to the sun with the result that people have their own free space between the vehicles.

This one drove in straight so he was blowing skunk cannabis into the motorhome and disturbing my wife though my 6 year old daughter was oblivious.

They wondered why we were not friendly and welcoming. I was pleased that he didn't have a dog that was pissing over the bikes and our doormat but thankfully this will be the last wild camp of the summer as our holidays are all on campsites.

Sometimes I hate wild camping. Other times it;s bliss.

I would only consider my view out the front window and park accordingly

I don't think parking door facing door to be an issue.

If it really bothered me I would close the door .
Yes , common sense...

There are times in life when there are no hard and fast rules...you just have to use your noddle. Some like to mix and be friendly, some want a bit of peace... decisions...decisions

Being the sociable type it doesn't bother me being parked door to door. If it bothers them then they are obviously the miserable 'don't talk to me, I'm a grumpy git' type. Sounds like they wanted your space, and you gave it to them without a fight.

But a VAR would help in judging if people were crossing the line. ;)

Never seen a line on a wildcamping spot.

Enjoy going were the crowds are - you can find 'thousands in a football stadium.
