Hi all,
I'm restoring a 40 year old A-class motorhome that came with a Paloma PH5-3F water heater. I've had it checked and serviced by PalomaBob and will shortly be refitting it. It'll be relocated as I'm changing the entire interior and layout, but I was wondering if anyone has advice re fitting the flue/chimney. The way it was previously fitted simply had the flue going up through the aluminium roof skin and supported by the wooden frame that the van is built with. The flu itself has a sleeve around it (with a small gap between) and then the old glassfibre insulation was around the outside. Kinda hard to explain and I didn't take any pictures when stripping it out.
My question now is reinstalling it. I'll obviously be cutting a new whole in the roof and using the old flue, sleeve and chimney, but I wanted to ask if there is any great heat produced when it's running and if there's any other things I can do to prevent damage or fire. Also, the old chimney was screwed down on top of a mastic type material. I have Butyl putty tape already but not sure if I'd need something more suited to high temperatures.
The van is almost 40 years old so it seems the heater flue didn't cause any issues the way it was installed before, but I'd rather be safe that sorry and thought I'd ask for any advice if someone has used or installed a similar water heater before.
Thanks,
Ryan
