Could this be anything other than the abs pump? Has come on after vehicle not used since start of year.

Yes it could just be the speed sensor or wiring. (rodent trouble)

Code P0500 is a generic diagnostic trouble code (DTC) for “vehicle speed sensor malfunction.”
A loss of ABS functionality leads to code P0500. This code indicates a problem with the vehicle’s speed sensor, which the ABS uses to determine how fast the wheels turn. The ABS can’t do its job if the sensor isn’t working
so getting a ABS light could be nowt to do with ABS. Can errors seen in other ecus eg engine may be related to abs pump failure.

Thank you for responding. It turned out that it was a failure of the combined ABS pump + ECU which is an amazingly expensive part from Peugeot but I was able to get our failed part repaired and the garage agree to fit the refurbished part which has worked so problem solved.

Thanks for replying, its only by knowing the end result that the knowledge pool increases. Ive seen a number of posts on FF where the ABS is not implicated by error codes at all, just canbus errors.
Just to clarify the ECU is the abs ecu which is part of the pump. Pherhaps this why there are can bus errors if total unit is dead. This is one area I would have thought there would have been compatability between Fiat and Peugeot.
