Hi
Has anyone travelled on this route recently and taken their dogs with them?
Our dogs have Portuguese Pet Passports with our UK home address on and I would like to know if there have been any problems getting dogs out of and back into the UK with similar passports?
Looking to book a dog friendly cabin for mid-March but we need to know if UK or Dutch customs are not permitting entry via this type of passport. Otherwise it's the dreaded AHC again........:(
Ta.
Garry.

When we had a dog they didn’t have dog friendly cabins on that route

If they do it’s a new thing, only option was car deck kennels that looked grim

Afaik as David said above, they don’t have dog cabins on that route. They have kennels on the car deck watched by cctv I believe.

from the P&O web site
If you're travelling to Holland with a dog, book a dog-friendly cabin so you can cruise with your furry friend. Make your trip from Hull to Europe one to remember with Fido by your side!
That’s good new for dog owners then, it must be a new thing🤷‍♂️
For those that use dog cabins on other routes, do they stink?

We came back last month P+O Rotterdam to Hull. Booked a pet friendly cabin no issues. Our dog has a Belgian passport again no issues bringing him back with the worming done..

No smell in the cabins on Rotterdam Hull when we came back. Floors have lino on them I take it easier to clean.

Does your dogs passport have a UK or Belgian address?

Our dogs have Portuguese & Spanish passports with UK addresses, no problems at all with going out and returning to the UK, the border control people aren't interested in the address, just that the rabies jab is up to date.

Does anyone know if 'dog friendly' cabins are ever allocated to people without dogs .. ?

They command a £148 surcharge (on top of the £98 standard cabin price) but because they are a relatively new addition, they are of a much better quality than the standard cabins.

thanks,
but do they only allocate them to people with dogs.. ?

I wouldn't want a cabin that dogs had used.

Can't find any info on the website.. so

I've emailed P&O with that question.. will post when they reply

I didn't ask them as I wanted a dog-friendly cabin!
You can have a dog-free Premier double bed window cabin for less.

Yes, £98 for a standard cabin, £123 for a Premier and £143 for a dog friendly one.

Just done a comparison and taking 1 dog on a return with a dog cabin adds £22 x 2 to the crossing cost plus £45 x 2 to the cabin, cost so quite a difference in price on what is already expensive IMV. Using a kennel means you don't get hit with the extra £90 for the cabins.

The dog friendly cabins are on the same deck as the truckers but nicely fitted out. The dog run is not much bigger than a table tennis but will suffice. its much nicer than the Hull - Zeebrugge was but still wish they would re-instate it !

I thought it was expensive, but as far as I got with the booking (I was just researching prices prior to making a decision on which way to get to Europe) I never saw an option to remove the standard cabin. Does this option appear at the final booking stage?

Silly me!
Didn't see the 1 x std cabin was checked when I checked the dog cabin option - unchecked it and now a not unreasonable £290 - around £60 more than travelling to Folkestone to catch the Shuttle, but a whole heap of driving less. Win-win (y)

The big benefit for us is that we can roll off the ferry refreshed from a good nights sleep and cover some miles straight away. It's a long, boring drive from Whitby to Folkestone - Hull is only 60 miles away.

We’ve used this route for the past 10 years, mainly to save the drive down south for ferry/tunnel. One thing that has changed in the last few years since passports need stamped, it can take over an hour to get through PP control. Last year it took us 1 hour 50 minutes, last time we got lucky and out within 30 minutes.

Don't worry about using a Portuguese dog passport, it's perfectly acceptable. Our dog has a Spanish one, with our UK address on it. We have been in and out of the UK several times since we got it in 2022. The Border people know that people are taking their dogs abroad to get passports, they don't care at all, as above its just a matter of making sure their rabies jab is up to date. No need for AHC's now!!

A question for those that have already taken / brought back dogs that have a European Pet Passport with a UK address - did your dogs have their booster injections at the same time as their rabies jab whilst abroad? Someone (on another forum) said that if that was the case, the rabies jab is invalid?
