Hi, all I have never bothered with a sat system before, but our "new" to us van has an Oyster dish.
So I have no knowledge of setting up etc
When I switch it on the dish goes up and just twizzes round (that's northern for moves round) . The receiver is a sky one and the TV is a small Avtex. These both light up and on the tv screen it says "no signal". I don't have a card for the receiver- do I need one, never had sky before.
TIA, Dave

It may be that the dish controller needs to have Satellite frequencies updated, you may be able to get free to air broadcasts without a card but if you want to get any Sky programs you will need a subscription and a card. The best person to speak to is Anthony OysterTech he is very helpful. You also need to ensure the dish has a clear view of the sky towards the South/south east. No trees etc.

And it needs to be a Sky HD receiver, not an old grey Sky digibox SD receiver, as many channels are now on frequencies only HD receivers can handle.

Even without a Sky card, you can receive all the free to air (ie non subscription) channels, that include BBC ITV C4 Fives, UKTV, Great, and many more...

I found Oyster Tech ( it was Anthony's colleague who helped me) excellent. He went through how to adjust the frequencies of the satellite receiver over the phone ( well I think that's what was going on!). Took about 20 minutes and then all worked fine. I had already bought a Manhattan box to cope with HD.

I am not even sure if the sky box is hd or not- it's cream coloured and quite small.
It has been fitted on a shelf and with a piece of plywood screwed above it so I can't see anything written on it. I will have a go at getting it out.
Cheers, Dave

You can get a refurbished Sky HD box on ebay for around £40 ish, if you do need one, get one with built in wifi rather then an ethernet port, although these boxes can record they won't unless you have a sky subscription.

Hi all,

Thanks to ChrisL for the tag. I've been away on holiday and am back at work on Monday but hopefully all has been sorted. If anyone ever can't get hold of me on here you can always ring the office on 01858575928 where Pat and Ian will be on hand to assist.

That sounds like the old pace 12v box which is not HD
