Overnight stays in French Alps

we had Christmas in a cable car car park near Argentiere in the Chamonix valley, a few years ago, -17 degree's overnight in our camper. Christmas dinner with the Champagne in the snow outside the door

Brilliant memories

In it or outside Eddie, inside doesn't sound so brilliant :giggle:

By the way a big thank you to your team for fitting the growler and non starter last week, especially Ian who did the hand over in a heavy rain shower, I'm really happy with how it all works.

Another 👍 for Montgenevre but its probably on the outer reaches of your tour. If you do, a must is the toboggan ride.
On your way and not too far away is a nice wild spot at Col de Lautaret, a flat gravel area with stunning views and wake up to the site of marmots nearby. Its at the base of the Galibier with great walks/cycling.
If you've not been before, then L'Alpe d'Huez is worth a visit. There's an aire but you can wildcamp further up the valley.

I haven't been before Terry but I would certainly like to have a look at L'Alpe d'Huez. I haven't set a time limit as such so I will probably try and visit all the suggestions put forward then off to the South. I am quite fortunate as I can please myself as the wife won't be going due to the covid situation. Thanks to all for the suggestions, catch the ferry Thursday can't wait.

Andy/Terry, agree Alp d'Huez is well worth the climb - if you havn't seen them do it, there's bound to be several Tour de France film clips showing wonderful distance shots of those endless switchbacks and the mad beggers cycling up them too!
There used to be an aire at the top, but it was closed a winter or two back. Does anyone know if they replaced it elsewhere?
At the bottom of the hill is a very pleasant campsite called Camping La Cascade, bustop nearbye & a manageable walk into the valley town, Le Bourg d'Oisons.
Good luck. CB.
