We are travelling in the motorhome from Santander to Guadamar del Segura and want to stay overnight once we have passed Madrid. Has anyone any suggestions for a safe stop over. We’re new to the motorhome changed from the caravan last July so not too sure if the rules.

We drive twice a year from Santander or Bilboa to Costa Blanca and we stopped over once in Madrid itself it was only a car park but very safe and convenient for bars and restaurant. I think I found it on Search for Sites. We find it we dock early morning usually 8.00am. We drive all the way to our place south Costa Blanca. Takes around 8 hours but we don’t stop very often only for dogs drink etc. Good luck enjoy 😊 Apparently it’s not safe to stopover in the services

Hello Eileen...we are in guardamar at the moment..we have a property here...towards the end of April we hope to drive here in our moho with our dog...we have driven by car many times but staying in dog friendly hotels , which sometimes can be hard to find.. we've never done it in a moho as we just got our first one last November..
Would you mind letting me know where you stopped and which route you took..
Thanks...
Brian

We normally stay at Castillo de Garcimunoz. Big castle to visit but not much else there, very quite for a stopover with services.

We stayed last year March in the following location overnight on our way to Torrevieja.
Castillo de Garcimunoz - parking - free with water and waste facilities, no electricity. Just of the main A31 about an hour past Madrid. Quiet, safe location.

We stopped a week ago on the free aire at Villarejo Del Fuentes south of Madrid.
It’s on park4night.
Lovely village with a great artisan cheese factory shop.
Water, waste, free electric and picnic bench.
I’ll put on the photos and the details.

Thanks..do you have to book or just turn up...
No booking. It’s just free. Nobody overseeing it. Just turn up.
We have found a lot of these aires on our current trip where they are trying to encourage visitors into villages that would otherwise be overlooked. 👍

Hopefully not highjacking this thread as not my intention but do any of you have suggestions for North of Madrid for the return trip. I would like to get the other side of Madrid from the south but not as far as La Cabrera or Borgos as would be too far in one step for us. Like the OP want to do through the city before a fresh start the next day. Thanks

Thanks Bolti looks nice but a bit further North than we would want to drive in one day if we can avoid it.

There is a great Aire at Ávila, a fantastic old town with the best maintained complete city wall in Europe. The Aire is part of a municipal car park, you have to pay but its very reasonable, and fantastic views of the city wall. There are some who overnight in the carpark, but it does seem a bit crass to not use the supplied facilities.

Sounds interesting will have a look although by preference we would rather go up the East side of Madrid. However we have done that way before so that may be one to look at. Thanks

Think it’s a definite for next time but we are on a very tight schedule this time and according to Google would add nearly 2
Hours to our driving time. It’s that gap just above Madrid, I suspect there may well be places but they haven’t made the apps yet.

When we were looking for a site near Madrid we were recommended Camping International Aranjuez. It’s south of Madrid. Good reviews on Searchforsites. We did not stay as we were looking something north of Madrid on our way back to Santander.

We're currently staying at Camping Osuna in Madrid, which is to the east of Madrid just off the ring road, so there's no narrow streets to contend with and it's very easy to find. It's a lovely site and about 10 minutes walk to the metro station (12 single tickets loaded onto an Oyster-type card for €6). We've really enjoyed visiting the City, and would definitely recommend the site.

for "just south of Madrid" the city of Toledo has a very pleasant carpark aire with free overnighting. (the one by the park by the river). 1/4m to the escalators (!) to the citadel. There maybe touts trying to take cash off you; don't, they're just trying it on.

Hi MM, it was definitely open - we left there yesterday after a three night stay. 😊 They're very helpful if you contact by email etc. There's some works going on on the site for upgrades to the bar and facilities.
