I know it’s been talked about but can’t find on here any suggestions for overnight around Folkestone as a early train in the morning thanks in advance for any info

A lot of people use this location, it’s opposite a large Tesco and on the south side of the canal it’s quiet,
About 20 mins to the tunnel outside rush hour,

We have used the CMC site at Black Horse Farm near Folkestone (a) because it offered "ferry pitches" in a separate area near the site entrance, for those catching early trains or ferries and (b) it was about 10 minutes drive to the Eurotunnel check-in, and (c) there is a handy pub and a shop opposite the site. I did read in the Club magazine that the ferry pitches had been turned into normal pitches (presumably due to low demand for Covid-related reasons), so how that affects someone like us in future remains to be seen.

We've only ever stopped on the UK side once in twenty years, when we used the ferry (a good while ago) we stopped the night on the terminal carpark. Nowadays we cross late afternoon and wander off to a convenient Aire situated in the direction that we are heading, Watten being just one of them, and if you are lucky there will be a chip van in the main street in the evening.

Unless you have pressure of work or something that stops you going over at night, the afternoon, early evening crossing just can't be beat, no rushing to catch your crossing in the morning, free Aire when you get there, leisurely breakfast then away all fresh.

We made a booking at Black Horse Farm about 72 hours before the initial COVID Lockdown, and I'm sure that the 'Ferry Pitch' bookings offered the facility of an early morning Alarm Call, timed to get you to Ferry or Tunnel in good time for the Booking In procedure. Do you know if that option is still available?

We travel 2nd December so we’ve booked in to the pub stopover The Valiant Sailor which is 20 minutes from the Tunnel.

I always do Black Horse Farm and only live 40 miles from the tunnel, I do it because I like an early crossing.

Over the years we have found that by far the best place to stay is the free aire at Sangatte next to the cemetery. There's a recently built free toilet block on site and water available just inside the cemetery gate. You've also got the beach pathway for an evening stroll and the tunnel is 15 minutes away.

Do have an address or ref link for there?

Is this the Aire at Hubert Lathem?
We need a good stopover Saturday night. We have a train early Sunday morning

We struggled on the way in to find any but the big lock up Aire at Sangatt.

Hi Stealaway
If you can access Google maps, search for Sangatte, when you find it, zoom in to find the cemetery. Google maps also identifies the aire next to the cemetery. Come back to me if unsuccessful.
thanks. ok.pj. stay safe.

We have taken 1st morning shuttle out of uk and overnighted in the eurotunnel parking area. No problems. Some years ago though.

The tunnel passes directly below the aire. If you set the sat nav it thinks you are on the train, 😱 until you move away.

Hi, it's worth checking with the site about the pub. We were there a few weeks ago and it was "No Food, Cash Only". I think they have been taken over. When we arrived (for just one night) we wee asked if we wanted a ferry pitch, so they are still there.

Is the site at Sangatt secure? Are you troubled by migrants at all? Very nervous about where we park as have been broken into twice and the bikes they thought about stealing them before they saw how old they were and decided not to bother! Is it better to get out of Calais to park or does that come with its own set of problems? We like to go later in the day and used to park at Citieurope but that’s not at all possible now as it’s just not safe.

Hi Julie P
We stayed at Sangatte in July this year on our way to the UK and then again in August on the way back (we live in France) and no sign of illegals at any time. Although we wild camp in Europe most of the time we are always aware of unsavoury people and places and if not sure we don't stop.

The one we stayed at last month in Sangatte was super secure. Complete with 10 foot fence and electric gates.
10€ per 24 Hours and it's not easy to use the entry or exit machine as it's only in French.
Or maybe I'm just thick :Eeek:

We go for the cheapest crossing whatever time it is...normally really late/early then drive a few hours then stop for a couple of hours. With the ban on some fridge items guess that may now be the corner of a supermarket carpark somewhere. Suits us but not everybody but driving at night much more pleasant
