Original Hymer wiring?!!

I've finally stopped procrastinating and starting wiring my B2B and lithium in. I came across this... initially, with the insulation in place I was thinking leave it. It's Hymer. Been there for 10 years. So glad I cut off the insulation...

I doubt that is original, someone has cut the cable and didn't have clue how to repair it.
