Original funsters

I’m just short of 60K lol... mind you original gang memberships started when I was just discovering nightclubs, alcohol didn’t have a license or van then 😂 when did it all start exactly ? What year ?

Good stuff everyone, keep it going.

There are just short of 48,000 'registered' members,
I presume that means paying members ?
The number of total members past and present is close to 70,000.

(And for those doing the maths, £15 x 48,000 is >£700,000 PA, which even after some considerable operational costs, the change would keep me in beer ;) )

I think they 'time out' after a fixed period, so I presume there are only dozens rather than thousands of inactive registered members
I don't think so but the number of posters is very small compared to the number of members.

That would be the well known "80/20 rule"
Where 80% of the posts come from 20% of the membership
It's a normal issue with any form of self help group.

A company I worked with had an internal chat feature with the same problem, eventually they simply unregistered those that did not post regularly. The problem was that eventually killed the app.

Have you taken into account its only in recent years there's been a subscription.
For many years it was free to join but Jim paid for professional code writers and paid for the server space from his own pocket.
It got to the point membership was outstripping server space so he had to start taking subs to cover the cost of BUYING THE FORUMS OWN SERVERS and maintaining them.
Servers, maintenance and code writers aren't cheap and they've been replace twice in recent years. .
Then in the early days he paid out of his own pocket to attend shows as a trader and hand out literally thousands of fliers.... Again paid for from his own pocket.
There are many thousands of read only members but they still have a membership number even though they are mostly long gone.
I believe there are around 500 paid up members.... Go to the members list and count them.
so it's a bit unfair to say Jim makes a more than decent profit.

Just had a quick count....

Out of the first 2000 members (100 pages) on the list just 203 are subscribed.

So about 10%'ish
Which would mean upwards of 4,000 full members

I see that 70 members are turning up at the Peterborough show alone, so I think overall numbers in the hundreds are pessimistic.

That's weird - I share membership with my husband, AKA Trophychap - however his number is 9,712 whereas mine is 7,400 and something.

I just checked my number 16833 and got the biggest surprise, my joining date was June the 11th 2011 so will be celebrating my 10th anniversary with Fun which is Tin, Happy Days :giggle:

I would have been a much lower number but I was a subscriber on the dark side and hung on there hoping It would get better (it didn't)

Cheers Colin :beerchug:
