As anyone got a 85cm crank up satellite dish are there easy to use how long to set up. Thank you.

Streaming is fine but where can you get unlimited data in Europe on a pay as go

Where can you get it you ask; Starlink gives you unlimited data across Europe. ✔️

We have both satellite and moho WiFi and the WiFi wins hands down! Never been stuck for a signal in europe, but I have been stuck for satellite reception in europe, plus the further you go into Europe the less British tv you can see. Never use the dish now, I’m even thinking of taking it off🤷‍♂️👍

Unfortunately at around £80 per month, for me Harvey that will never happen😉👍

Or maybe it will one day but it would have to be a fixed on dish like a sat dish, I cba getting the thing out and chucking it on roof or wherever everytime I wanted to use it🤔

I took mine off and got another 200w solar panel on in its place, win win!!

85 pound a month + hardware
I believe you can pause it or just pay for the time you use it but at £85 pm plus buying it, it’s a hell of a lot of money, and as more people get drawn into using it and find out they can’t do without it (bit like mobile phones) the price will rise and people will pay it purely because it’s a service they won’t want to give up

You asked where you can get it, I answered…🤪

I accept it’s a premium product, it works perfectly however it does comes with some ongoing cost, which I understand some find expensive. Can’t argue really!

What I can say, it’s a game changer and has worked in every single stop we’ve had in the last 100 days across all of France, Spain, Portugal… 24 locations so far and also worked perfectly around UK all summer too! 👍🏻

That’s quite enough Harvey, you’re drawing me in……

If I needed it, I would use it at home and away. Get rid of home fibre and save that money, reduce your mobile data contracts down as you don’t need so much data, then work out the delta between all these costs that you’re saving and Starlink roam. This would work out at around £40/month for us, so makes it quite reasonable as a delta figure!

Don’t you just love ‘man maths’! 🤣🤣

Ideally you need all bases covered if you want to have telly available everywhere in the UK and north east Europe. We regularly use our omnidirectional aerial for Freeview in the UK but we also have to use the satellite quite a lot because Freeview TV and data reception can be a bit patchy in some areas of the UK. We also use the satellite a lot in France for live telly even though we have unlimited data roaming (it's just more convenient changing channels with the satellite remote compared to scrolling around the Firestick menus). We still use the firestick for streaming and there is better coverage around Europe than there is around the UK.

No need to scroll around Firestick menus, just voice search, dead easy and greatly improves use ability. ✔️

Easy to search if you have a ninja thumb to select the letters to type and know what you want to watch but usually simpler just running through the satellite EPG to find something to watch.

You missed the key point of my above post; VOICE search on the Firestick, no Ninja digits needed. 😉

I remember our first sat dish it was a crank up and manual aiming using a tone sound indicator. In answer to your original question, it was a complete pain in the behind. Difficult to locate the satellite, could take 15 minutes to get a picture. Usual problem of trees and buildings blocking the reception. Best feature was taking it down and parking it, two minutes max.!
Our next van had an Oyster system and that worked well with auto satellite tuning.
That was probably 10 years ago but I guess the manual dishes are still awkward to use and slow to tune in.

Just bought a Popit 100gb SIM for £25 monthly and no need for a VPN.
No competition IMO, go WiFi.

But flicking through channels takes far longer streaming at the moment as you need to use each providers app currently which takes time to load up,
Hopefully next year freely is launching which will be legal iptv and go direct to channels.

Totally agree, there is no one stop perfect solution (except perhaps Starlink). Streaming TV is becoming more and more viable, but completely useless if you have no data connection. All the networks have coverage black spots - I use SIMs from two different networks but still sometimes struggle with no data service. Mobile networks also become saturated in venues with high numbers of users. At the British Superbikes last year I had 4 bars of 4G service but still struggled to get 1Mbps download (nowhere near enough for TV), but as soon as the crowds had dispersed, same phone, same place and 15Mbps download.

Many will disagree but I like the convenience of satellite - chose your pitch with a clear line of sight to the South East, hit the button and 5 minutes later use the TV the same as at home. (y)

We have had a dish before it was easy and good we tried data but not that good and why don’t you need a VPN in Europe
Our satellites dish is a Maxview target 85cm auto with autoskaw with icecrypt box gives you uk tv anywhere in Europe.
1500 pounds I know it’s lot but it’s a one of payment but we know we get uk tv

How far into Europe do you go? I’m pretty sure I couldn’t watch uk tv in Austria and Slovenia on ours and it was sketchy in southern Germany👍

Our Oyster V (85cm) dish picked up a very strong, solid Astra 2 signal throughout the whole of Germany, Austria, and Slovenia last summer. The Freesat channels fell off towards the bottom of Germany, but we have a Sky box, so that gives you probably 100 English channels to choose from which is more than enough for me - and no worrying about VPN’s or roaming data allowances.

have a look at starlink! you can get signal literally anywhere on earth!
Couldn't justify the cost.
4g serves us well enough 95% of the time at a fraction of the cost. If we dont have 4g we have the option of a portable sat dish, dvd or read a book. Only watch an hour or 2 of tv a day anyway.
