Olives

I dont know how true it is but an old Frenchman once told me the human body can survive on three things. Olives, Bread and Red wine. He said all nutrients are in those three things.

The first and only olive I have tried was unintentional, in Cyprus, it was in a salad and I though it was a grape. Never again, if I ever get problems with cholesterol I will take statins not olives.

Just wondering whether anyone else has either gone off, or suddenly found a liking for, different foods at different stages in their lives?

I've always loved olives, any colour, any stuffing, hot or cold will do for me. [HI]I always loved pies too - until I reached the grand old age of 40 which is when 'pie heartburn' kicked in for the first time.[/HI] Still love 'em, but can't eat them without a handy bottle of Gaviscon at my side.

Then, when I reached 50 my previous loathing of sweet pudding wines not only disappeared, but was miraculously replaced by an abiding love for the things.

Once thing hasn't changed though. The deep hatred of all milk puddings instilled in me at school has never left, and never will I hope. Even the thought of a baked custard can get me retching to this day.

Still love olives though!

I cant eat pies anymore , nor sausage rolls:Sad:

Gaviscon doesnt help me eiither.

I couldn't eat pies or sausage rolls anymore either but have found that if I take a digestive enzyme (Arkopharma) 15 minutes beforehand the problem is solved!

Prevention better than cure!

Sorry, bigfoot, but Green Olives are non-ripened and Black Olives are ripened. True Black Olives are jet black. The deep terracotta olives are just another species - usually smaller.
Partially correct but they are inedible straight off the tree hence the soaking. 'Black' olives are turned black by treating in an oxide solution. Both types are 'cured' before eating.

If you spot them, try olives stuffed with salmon, they are delicious. Can't find them very often though

Years ago, I couldn't understand why people had olive oil on bread until I tried this Link Removed at the good food show. Its fabulous, & so is their balsamic vinegar Link Removed . Not cheap, but worth every penny.

I've had more pleasure eating olives than Popeye ever did.

Can't get enough of them.

We prefer the black ones and will buy them by the kilo when in Spain and Portugal - bought 5 kilos back with us last year.

Nigel and Pamala

No, no, no....Green ones (preferably stuffed with garlic) all the way

Sorry if this already said ... thread is so long I can't keep up.

I don't like olives but eat them occasionally PLUS the stones as once it was believed they protected against certain cancers; don't know if true but thought it wouldn't do any harm to try.
