I just got confirmation from NFU and their underwriters that they will cover our new Xtura off road. No limits other than "not in racing or competitions" so pretty standard.

The have required a Thatcham tracker with valid subscription and they put a fairly hefty compulsory excess on it but that's down to the price of the van not the 4x4 aspect.

Thats good, I might try them.

I think MandC said they fit a S5 tracker. And the van has Thatcham 1 alarm/immbiliser.

I spoke to MandC too. They said they can have Scorpion fit a tracker. Scorpion are apparently/coincidentally who Eura recommend. We’re getting a quote from them but I don’t see why we wouldn’t go ahead - it’s a long way and a lot of diesel to MHF favourites VanBitz.

The Scorpion S5 tracker for £449+155/y makes NFU happy. We went for the S5+ at £599 + 189/y since it can use your phone as the immobiliser tag.
I have the S5+ also. The phone tag works well.

The tracking system is rather good, it records all of your journeys including speed and driving style. The kids have a log in for the system so they can see where we are when in deepest Morocco - but often they comment on our driving style after reading the logs ....

btw .. where are the rest of the posts from this sub forum? I'm sure I saw some pics of CaptainPaul 's new MLT570 but I can't find them now.

Is the journey recording only in S5+? Don't seem to have this in the S5.

No .. I had the S5 in my previous van and could see journey logs using the The Scorpion Track log in.

It's under Vehicles > Reporting > Journeys.

You see Guv ... I wasn't speeding .... Got proper evidence like .....

We used NFU for a few years but no longer interested and each year I try they give a different reason, this year it was value and the year before it was engine size. They don’t seem consistent when refusing to quote😩

That's weird, I can only get last location or bar charts showing daily/weekly mileages etc.

Jim closed then opened that social group to encourage us over here. The old threads should be visible now.

I think Jim is planning to move some over and Jane was going to move the informative stuff.

I like them. Car and house are though them too.

They have good home coverage for long trips and insured us for Morocco and Albania at no extra charge too.

Check all the small print carefully. The people who overturned their 4 x 4 Hymer in the desert near Guadix came unstuck.

We couldn't get cover via NFU for our Xtura, ended up having to go with Caravan guard. New for old value was the big issue with virtually all the insurers we tried, I think this will be the case for the first 2 years, lots have a limit of 150k RRP value.

Now we have the van and are starting to explore it's capabilities we shall be looking out for a more adventurous policy and will change when/if we think it is necessary.

Hoping, there will advice here on what companies do offer a decent cover for off-road activities. Be interesting to get info on what sort of cover you actually require.

The NFU insurance for the Twin in Morocco was not fully comp. We considered getting specific insurance for the trip but in the end decided to self insure the 1P aspect. It was fully comp for Albania (I think).

I definitely have little faith in the country specific insurance you buy at border crossings. That said, I don't have massive faith in any insurance.

I've had three quotes from different Insurance companies and all would insure the Xtura. The last one, Safegaurd, I specifically asked about off road use and it was a no no. Excess was £1200 from them too, the highest.

We did have to take a higher excess (£2k) “because of the value of the van”.

A few years ago, I took the decision that saving £50 on premiums wasn’t worth the hassle of taking out a new policy every year so I do tend to just renew. I also like to believe history with a broker counts for something. Every few years I do get a competing quote to make sure we’re not getting price ratcheted.

Of course that doesn’t apply if they refuse to insure you.

I believe Saga do fully comp for Morocco, but sadly there is a limit on van value, suspect off road is also a no no.
