I have to be honest and say that I haven't travelled much around East England so probably mixing it up with the broads. Not even on days like this!

Try throad from Szczecin to Wroclaw it's classed as a motorway and I wouldn't go above 30mph absolutely awful !You forget to mention the joy of the crazy paving with holes otherwise known as the A12. Probably one of the worst roads in the UK. I have to use it to come back to Suffolk and I am constantly amazed my Rapido doesn’t get damaged from the vibration of poor surfaces and bumps of potholes which I try to avoid by leaving a large gap from the vehicle in front so I have a chance of seeing them but some places are so bad there’s little chance of avoiding them. Some back roads I travelled in Poland were better.
If you get the Hull-Zeebrugge ferry its about 350 miles all in to Dunkirk, just saying as I am doing it in SeptOur Scottish roads in my area are deserted, no hang on I've worked out why, its the rain & the midges!!!
The scenery is splendid though but, France is prohibitive as we've got 450miles to go before we could pick up a ferry.
Our daughter lives in Essex & my other half is from Bucks, our last trip in either area shocked me, it took us over an hour to go through Aylesbury (a town which I know well) then to Hazel's brother who lives near Taplow had unbelievable traffic jams, even on a sunday.
There was a drunk collapsed on one of the Polish A roads I used, lucky for him I was paying attention and being slowed down by the ruts in the road from HGV's & buses.Try throad from Szczecin to Wroclaw it's classed as a motorway and I wouldn't go above 30mph absolutely awful !
it isn't acceptable that one of the wealthiest countries in the world has such shite roads . it is also an affront, by both the politicians and those responsible on local councils,to the people actually paying hugely inflated taxes on fuels, vehicle excise duty and scam fines for all manner of supposed offences .Most back roads in most countries are better because of lack of traffic
I'd be complaining on such a basis, if local ,that they'd have to go in to hiding.I have to be honest and say that I haven't travelled much around East England so probably mixing it up with the broads.View attachment 320841
Are these a whole new can of worms that are being opened? What scams and what supposed offences?scam fines for all manner of supposed offences .
Kent Police do not chase foreign offenders. They can ignore the limits. If a foreigner does it a number of times they may lay a trap for them.Agreed!
50mph for miles and miles for no good reason that I can see.
They had finally cleared the ‘stack lanes’, to my delight, when we came back through the tunnel a few weeks ago. Only to find they had reinstated them the other side of Ashford, also with 50mph limits.
The lanes were supposed to be experimental to see what effect it had on traffic but they have been there for months.
Why? What is going on? It’s a great way to impress visitors and welcome them to our road system.

Certainly seen quite a few foreign vehicles exceeding average speed camera limits, they obviously know they are immune!Kent Police do not chase foreign offenders. They can ignore the limits. If a foreigner does it a number of times they may lay a trap for them.
Fortunate living near the tunnel but in the real world people have to get there and rather than struggle with the roads to there, I found it far less stressful to drive and have a month touring the South West this year.Agree with all of the above re M20. Living in Folkestone you will understand why we choose to travel to Europe. We have recently returned from two separate trips in the UK and arrive home exhausted, frustrated with the traffic, roadworks and having to book every site - just too much stress. Looking forward to going across on the tunnel In a fortnight for a month of relaxed travel, doing what we want when we want. One piece of good news is that they are, at last, resurfacing the M20 and getting rid of the potholes - mind you that still means closing various junctions over weekends, so be prepared if travelling at night.
Just driven back home to Suffolk from Calshot, near Southampton and the traffic has been a nightmare.
I chose a route that would miss a lot of the dreaded M25 and A12 and left just before 10 this morning, thinking the traffic wouldn’t be too bad.
We crawled up the M3 until past Winchester, stopped and started around the M25 near Heathrow and sat in jams trying to get to the A1m.
Just to add to the merriment there was a car fire and some of the driving was pretty awful.
It took over 5 hours.
We drive thousands of km around France (other countries are also available) every year and I have never had a drive like that while there.
And folk wonder why we prefer going to the continent rather than staying in the UK.

Anything they fancy dreaming up.Are these a whole new can of worms that are being opened? What scams and what supposed offences?
There is no such thing as an " average speed camera" if there was you would be able to pass the first at 100mph & the second at 40 mph in a 70 mph limit. You can't thetrefore they aren't "average" & yes I don't bother worrying about any type of limit/camera/ whatever. just cruise at what is a sensiblespeed for the time of day/night /conditions/etc.Certainly seen quite a few foreign vehicles exceeding average speed camera limits, they obviously know they are immune!
try it down here now. & this year is far less busy for the summer than last year was. Seen mway shut twice in the week I've been here ; nose to tail on North devon link road most days. as well as the A30 etc. Last thursday from Exmouth 5 miles either stopped or 1st gear only .I found it far less stressful to drive and have a month touring the South West this year.
As does Paul Badknee ask him abut his trip up from Canterbury park & ride a couple of weeks back at night, Everything closed going north. Including the tunnels at the crossingIf traveling in the UK, it has to be done very early or very late. I do it for my living like that, and for my motorhoming too. I don't have problems then.
That's the answer I expectedAnything they fancy dreaming up.
I was there last week. I don't go every week obviously but I'll be back at the end of the month.
