Not Sure We Will Be Ready

Just another thing on Revolut, unless you go for the paid version, and there's no real need, you can only withdraw the equivalent of £200 in cash per month.

Yes it does say that which I don't fully understand ..but i believe it means commission fee free ... I have used my card daily and the atm's regularly ...much easier than the banks in Portugal and never had a problem or a charge that we are aware of

..Still better than paying nearly £4.79 for every transaction imho

@Sundowners but we’re so ready to go, would like to manage it if we can.

If you get to within 24 hours and find you need extra time you can still change it. At least you have that option with the tunnel crossing, not so with a ferry crossing. Keep crossing those things you off your list.

DFDS does a flexi ticket from dover full refund within 48hrs or alter booking within 3 days but if more expensive you have to pay difference

Get one each then if you need cash you can get €400 without the fee.

Just looking into this and yes you can only withdraw £200 a month on there free card without accouring charges. Also you have to pay a fee of £4.99 for a physical card that we would need to use in the cash machines, which is why we need this card in the first place and possible not enough time to get it !!!

Yes, I seem to remember I put £10 on the account through the App and then ordered the card for £4.99. It came within a couple of days.

That is not quite correct. When you take a flexi ticket you are allowed to change 72 hours either side of the scheduled crossing without any charge whatsoever just subject to the crossing not being full. Outside of the 72 hour period you have to pay the difference.

from here.

  • Flexibility to amend your booking on arrival at port to travel up to 72 hours either side of your booked crossing time for free, subject to availability.

  • No administration fees – only pay the difference in the fare to travel more than 72 hours either side of your booked crossing.

  • Full refund up to 48 hours before travel.
I do it all the time.

Happy Retirement!! We have a Post Office credit card with 0% charges on foreign transactions and the actual conversion rate is quite good.

Only slight negative was it didn't work in fuel pumps in Scandinavia but for that I used a Halifax Clarity card, no foreign transaction charges.

That’s the one downside of Revolut it won’t work in any self serve type payment machines Fuel/Paege etc but other than that quite brilliant, instant top up,great exchange rate,immediate cancel facility online if stolen.

'Scuse my ignorance but why do folk bother with prepaid and credit cards?
I've travelled abroad for business and pleasure since well before ATM's existed and now just draw cash from an ATM without any charges with my N/Wide FlexPlus debit card. If I need to top up the FlexPlus account I just go online and transfer funds to it from another account.

weve used the weswop card for all of those and im yet to find a limit to free withdrawals although we found many machines do try to charge you now with all cards

Main one though is I haven’t sorted out if it’s worth taking a prepaid money card to access money while away. Don’t normally have one but there again not normally away this long.
Just use our Visa card and take some cash usually. Not sure there’s time for it to come
We use Revolut card, it’s quite good, currently on our 3rd day into a 5 month trip, and just drove through France via Millau route. Had trouble using credit cards in all the unmanned fuel stops line the supermarkets, won’t take Revolut, MasterCard, or Visa. I think the French are trying to tell us something. No problems on the motorway services though. Be aware it’s expensive fuel in France. €1.65 at most places.

We used to have a problem with most credit cards and the Caxton but over the last couple of years it seems to have gone away - have used both Visa and MasterCard with no problems. However we no longer use the Caxton card at fuel stations as they take the maximum amount authorised, even if you don't actually load it all. You get a refund later but that's not the way I do business so if I need to use the funds I'll make a cash withdrawal first.

@Ukbandit
Thanks for the info.
We’re just setting off down to the Chunnel

@TerryL
We’ve always used our Nationwide CC with no problems as yet
The Revolt Card is new to us to use for cash withdrawals

Glad to see you're on your way - good luck and have a fabulous trip.

Just a thought - I believe the Revolut card does the same as the Caxton if you use it at a fuel station.

@TerryL
Ah thanks I’m so glad we’re off it’s been a nightmare up to now.
Thanks for the info
