A couple of videos taken on our trip to Norway earlier this year. They are taken on Norway's Coastal Road, the Fv17, which runs from Trondheim to Bodo. It was one of the highlights of our trip but it's not a quick route. The roads are good and the route requires 6 ferry crossings. For speed many people will take the E06 further inland. The scenery on the coastal road is spectacular and one of the ferry trips crosses the Arctic Circle. We were there in the first week of June and the video starts from Namsos.

We just followed the main coastal road (with ferries), but there are many possibilities to go off route and explore the islands as well. That might be something we'll do on a future visit.

I hope this is of interest to anybody planning a trip to Norway.

Couldn't agree more

We're currently on the FV17 ourselves working our way slowly north.

This guide from the Norwegian Roads Authority gives a flavour of the FV17 route.

Similarly, this guide from Visit Norway.

As well as the Coastal Highway itself, we've also been taking additional ferries to some of the outer islands. Today we've been over on the UNESCO protected island of Vega. Absolutely spectacular. (Free car ferry there and back)!

If you enjoy hiking, it's nirvana.

I've already posted these in the Photo of the Day thread, but these are from the last couple of days on and around the FV17 coastal highway.

Norway is probably the best country in Europe for motorhomes. Easy free parking ups, plentiful free motorhome service points to pump'n'dump, fantastically friendly people, safe and clean (even in the cities), but most of all, simply beautiful.

Just a shame it's such a trek to get to!

Just spent a penny (actually not true - they're free) at what have been voted the world's best public toilet, at a rest stop on the FV17.

Apparently they're even funkier after dark when the glazed panels all glow orange.

Having run out of bridges, tunnels and modern ferries to spend their money on, I guess the Norwegian government are now splurging all their budget surpluses on toilets!
