Hi guys, currently in the lake district but planning to head to Northumberland along Hadrian's wall. I'm looking for tips for places of interest, good free parkups etc. May go up to holy island but confused, NT website says drive across causeway, but also says council p&d carpark 1 mile. OH won't walk a mile !
Any other tips for bamburgh / alnwick castle or anything else in that area ?
Thanks

There is a coach parking area outside Alnwick Castle walls, maybe you could use that. There is a big Sainsbury store just on the outskirts of town, you could park and walk from there or if a bit too far, get a local bus just outside. If you like books, try Barter Books, second hand books in the old railway station.

Stay away from Northumberland.... Terrible place full of folk who want to keep the southerners safe from the monsters and demons lurking about the place (is that what I'm supposed to write when putting visitors off BikerGraham ?)

If you should find yourself stuck there, the castle and grounds in Alnwick are worth a visit as are the gardens although there might not be a good display of flowers now, there will be when the roses come out.

Alnwick Rugby Club has spaces for motorhomes.

The coastline is very nice, particularly when there aren't busy weekends.

Wall's End to the east of Newcastle is worth a visit for roman stuff if you haven't seen enough along the wall

Plenty of parking on Holy island but rangers will shift you off before full tide as there is NO overnighting permitted.
Expensive cafe and overnighting car park (I would not call it a camp site at ’Barn at Beal’ ) great views but they know how to charge 😖😖

It i

Not overnight !

Hamburg h castle car park overnight fir a fee
I think what you are trying to say is that the carpark opposite Bamburgh Castle is part of the council ran initiative to allow Motorhome overnight stays in Northumberland.

As well as Bamburgh, there is also Amble, which is a pleasant walk both into Amble and Warkworth, and at Beadnell, which has a lovely beach and a nice seafood place next to it.

All are bookable in advance for £12 per night on the Northumberland Council website, but there are no services.

Alternatively we have some very pleasant CL, CS and CAMC & CCC sites around the coast and inland

Bamburgh Castle good parking, along with a interest Grace Darling museum.

Budle Bay on coast just North of Bamburgh has 2 places, kielder forest worth a visit, see the osprey chicks but midge city, been up there ttoday.there are CL's dotted along the coast but this time of year you might struggle with some, good site just North of Powburn near the Ingram valley also v good, serviced pitches and reasonable prices. Alwinton also nice if you like peace and quiet. Clennel Hall is a Britstop I believe, also a touring site next door.enjoy your trip.

Yes Matt that’s right. Horrible place, stay away 😂😂😂

Hope you all enjoyed your trip around part of our home county 👍

Currently on a lovely site next to river Loire just along from Saumur. Very quiet and relaxing 👍👍

We had a great tolerable time around the county; the weather was horrendous and the place was crammed full of people. Nothing to see or do...

It was so bad we had to get a season ticket for Alnwick gardens so we can return and remind ourselves how bad it is ;)

We had a good time at Saumur... Are you planning to go further along the Loire or head south?

So glad you didn’t enjoy it 😂😂 give us a shout next time and we can arrange something.

Well we are only here for 2 weeks and this is the second week. We were heading down to Dordogne when found out some friends were On a rally on the Vendee just north of La Rochelle. So we detoured there and spend 6 days with them instead.

Have done many holidays in the past in this are. Love Amboise.

So just a few nights here then heading slowly back to Calais for the tunnel next Monday.

We will certainly let you know when we're heading back to Northumberland... Looking forward to catching up.

Great to hear you've had flexibility with your plans.... Just as it should be imho.

We stayed at Camping municipal de l'Île d'Or looking out ar Amboise but didn't go inside as we had done several châteaus by then and had more to visit
... Next time.

Seahouses is a must visit place, 3 miles from bambrough and if the tide is out you can walk from one to the other along the beach and there are a couple of brit stops not far away along with both a ccc site and some privately run and also people do park on the side of the road by budle Bay.

whilst obvious to most people clearly not to all, chck times for Lindasfarne, first one of many this summer, or the 1st i have heard of at least. https://www.itv.com/news/tyne-tees/...om-rising-tide-after-car-stranded-on-causeway
The article says it’s the 4th time this year. Same thing every year though.

Can’t believe the stupidity of some people. There is enough warning and information posted at the causeway. Including the fact the ride comes in very fast.

There is a park in Alnwick and if you go in there is a mound wih a small tower by Robert Adam. On a clear day, if you stand on the mound you can see 8 castles they say. Worth a look.
