Hi, we are off on a six week tour of France, northam Spain and Northern Portugal, in just over a week's time .
We have never been to Northern Spain or Portugal any recommendations where to visit we like mountains and the coast, not into cities
France will be a slow drive through taking about a week
We will be using ares most of the time and will be off Grid
Thanks Kev

I'm feeling a 'Sharpe' (Bernard Cornwell) itinerary coming over me, all of a sudden!
There are some Reallygreat free Aires in that region. They all come up on search for sites.

Would highly recommend Zamora. Beautiful city, one of the nicest we’ve found in Northern Spain so far and a free Aire close.
We were there a couple of days ago. We stayed in the big free aire near to the castle. It was fine and gave us the chance to revisit the city, having previously stopped there overnight on a motorcycle tour.

Definitely the Picos, great off-grid stops behind Xilloi Beach and at Muxia which we thought nicer than Finisterre. Nice stops also in Canberra and Ribadavia.
In the very N of Portugal; nice stops in Ponte de Lima, Viana do Castello.
Hello, you mention "nice stops" in several places in N.Spain. What sort of stops are they? Aires, wild. campsites? Thanks, Mike.

Comberro (not Canberra!) and Ribadavia were Aires. There is quite a nice small site that we used in Cambados.

If you are planning to hit Portugal let me know, I lived here for many years and know a lot of great spots. If you don't know this site its worth having a look, not much in the Algarve but as you go up north from the Algarve there are plenty to choose from.
