Northern Italy June 2024

We were in Iseo a week ago, lovely lake with the largest inhabited Island Monte Isola. Worth a visit and can go around on your bike.
In answer to our route we first stopped just outside Reims in Guignicourt after Calais. Then stopped just outside Strassbourg, another lovely city. Followed by InterLaken in Switzerland for some fantastic scenery and then onto Iseo.

We are at Sirmione https://www.campingsanfrancesco.com/en/index

€27 with ACSI so not cheap but lots of space, but we are only here for the night so we could visit Sirmione. Once again paying for services we don't need, EHU, entertainment, swimming pools etc

Today we used the ferry service and visited Malceseine for the first time since 2019. The temperature has really climbed today up to the late 20’s. Lovely walk along the promenade before a fabulous two hour lunch - great to sit and admire the view with the lake lapping across the path -

then a wander around the small streets around town. The town was busy but not uncomfortably so. This is why I love Italy so much.

We were at the Lido in Malcesine only a week ago, it was one of the best pizza's I've had on this trip, and the view over the lake is fantastic.

We took the bus from Garda, but wish we'd took, or at least returned by the ferry, the bus was hell on the return

Well after Malceseine Tuesday was a quiet day on site enjoying one of two pools at Fornella. The site although near capacity seems to absorb people and the atmosphere has a gentle buzz which is lovely. Yesterday was back on the water to Sirmione for a full day. Really enjoyed the day but the temperatures have really climbed now and are in the late 20’s early 30’s and not dropping out of the 20’s in the night. This morning we off for a cycle ride to Salò before another afternoon by the pool. Tomorrow our last full day before leaving for Fussen is a boat trip to Isola Del Garda and a guided trip of the house and grounds.

The trip to Isola Del Garda on Friday was lovely - it’s a perfect place. Friday night saw the threatened electrical storm and rain easing some of the humidity.

Saturday was bright and sunny as we set of for our site Camping Claudia at Lechbruck Am See near Fussen. It was a long drive with delays going over the Brenner Pass and then again approaching Innsbruck. We also got delayed crossing the Fern Pass. As we entered Germany the weather worsened and we arrived on site to heavy rain. As getting into Fussen from our site on a Sunday wasn’t going to be easy and the weather hadn’t improved we packed up this morning and headed for Rothenberg a day early. It has proved to be the right decision a good journey with improving weather and our pre booked site Camping Tauberromantik could accommodate us a night early. Spent the afternoon relaxing and now have Monday/Tuesday in Rothenberg before heading further north on Wednesday.

We are at Baia Verde now, oh my what a deluge of rain for 12 hours! And it all drains into the lake which is looking angry and dirty!! We also visited Sirmione on Monday but without the van, what a beautiful place!

Were the brenner pass delays caused by the weather?

Hi - no it was mainly volume of traffic especially dropping down into Innsbruck.

Had a great two full days in Rothenberg in glorious weather. The walk up the hill on both days was well worthwhile it is a wonderful place to spend time discovering.

Today we left Rothenberg and continued our journey back north to Valkenburg and Camping Cabourg. It was approx 275 miles and the journey along the A7, A3 and A4 was straightforward. Temperatures in early 30’s and we walked down into the town in the late afternoon for a wander and our evening meal before cheating and catching a bus back to the site. Tomorrow we head of to Delft for two nights before sailing home to Hull on Saturday evening

I've only just come across your thread but have thoroughly enjoyed admiring your photos and reading about the places you visited. I hope you enjoyed your last few days in Holland and had a good journey home. A belated thank you for taking the time for posting. Cliff
