North east coast in March

Ah OK I thought they had seen sense at last and made it an "Aire"
They can't. There is a planning policy restriction on camping within a certain radius of the town centre.
If Scarborough Council allowed camping in their car parks they would risk being sued by people whose applications for private camp sites have been refused because of the policy.

We did something like that in early spring this year. I might be a cockney but I love Yorkshire and it's folk.
We started at Spurn head, found a free parking spot right on the sea just a mile from the head, Listed on park4night as Humber lane. Then ambled up the coast visiting the various towns and attractions. Hornsea was a revelation. Back in my uni days I fell in love with a Hornsea girl but hadn't been back for about 40 years. It's well worth a visit. As is Bridlington, a good mate of mine is a Brid boy and he was the person who first introduced me to the wonders of Yorkshire. The cliff top park and ride was handy but don't try and stop overnight.....
We found a good free parking spot in Withernsea, close to the police station so felt safe; it's listed on Park4night.
As others have said, don't try and drive down into Robin Hoods Bay. But the old station car park is only a short walk up anyway. and it is lovely.
We didn't quite make it to Whitby this trip, as others say it's not very MH friendly. Shame as the fish and chips are worth the visit.
Then we turned inland as I always want to spend time on the North York Moors.
The moors are MH friendly, one night the ranger stopped by and spoke to each of us as we settled down for the night, basically saying he knows we are going to act responsibly and have a good evening. Very refreshing for the UK.
But there are so many places to stay anyway, including farm and other campsites at reasonable prices.
And of course a fabulous centre for walking and cycling.
We finished the trip with a night in Pickering, again a repeat visit as an old friend lives there. If you go there don't miss the old church of St Peter and St Paul. It's over a 1000 years old and has well preserved medievil fresco's that are as good as those in Europe.

You won't be disappointed.
I really appreciate the time you took to put this together - I’ll plot on my map tomorrow

Thanks

Is there not a C&CC site just North of Scarborough, probably closed during winter though?

Just off the A1 at junction for Holy Island. Free to stop in car park and a decent cafe for a proper breakfast. Some road noise but nothing over the top.

Owner getting a bit hacked off at the number of motorhomes parking up, leaving early and not even having a coffee!

We live not far from Southampton and travelled the East Coast in September, never been before, really enjoyed our trip. We visited Gibraltar Point, Hull, Lincoln (cathedral is a must see), Cleethorpeks, Scarborough, Robin Hood Bay, Whitby and York.

On the way up we had a few nights at Rutland Water to break the journey.

We are self sufficient and always use CLs, for Skegness we stayed at New Willow Cottage (Bird Song), Burge Le Marsh, great CL, 20 min walk from site to catch bus into Skegness.

Stayed at Willow Lodge, Skirlaugh for our trip to Hull, bus stopped right outside camp site which is attached to a garden centre. Not the best CL, however, good base for staying when visiting Hull.

Stayed at Wilton Gatehouse, Pickering, again another good CL, we used this as our base for visiting Scarborough, Whitby and Robin Hood Bay, was lucky enough to get parking space on sea front at Scarborough by the theatre. Loved Scarborough, would definitely re visit.

Visited Whitby, lovely drive across the Yorkshire Moors from site, managed to park in harbour car park without any problems at all. Popped along to Sandsend which is a lovely beach.

Agree with others park at the top car park and walk down, yes quite steep but a lovely walk, would recommend the walk along the beach at Robin Hood bay.

Stayed at Stud Farm for our trip to York, again bus stopped right outside campsite, only about 20 mins bus trip into York. We found on this trip it was such a good idea finding sites on bus routes into main cities, towns, so much easier than trying to park in those places.

Hope you find this information useful.

Thanks for this - struggling to find the stud farm site though ?

I find it fascinating to find out what different people think of as "north" ... and that the title of the post is North East Coast - to me that is north of Inverness lol.

To me you aren't really north in England until you are over the River Tees on the east side or north of Manchester on the west :)

Well, yeah, where I come from (Highbury), North is anywhere beyond St Albans. ;). Passport recommended, oh and phrase book might be handy too.

By the way your not south until you’ve just passed Winchester and can see the Isle of Wight in the distance

I stayed at this site a few years ago. Walkable into the town which had a nice hotel for food and a chip shop.

Golf course is a very short walk and the clubhouse restaurant allows none members to eat there, it is excellent and sensibly priced
