Ive joined a few MH FB groups and I’ve seen a few posts of the benefits of using the better kind of diesel you can get at petrol stations. Folk claim its better for the van, better mpg etc..
Question is, is there any truth in this?

Cheers

I did a very long comparison over 50000 miles on my Volvo and there was no difference in mpg between supermarket or other stations, and no difference with super diesel.

That was top up top up and accurate miles recording. The added lubricants may help the engine though.

A Motorhome is based on a Commercial vehicle so it's desgined to run on cheap stuff. I've filled up a couple of times on the posh stuff by accident and never noticed any difference.
Probably get better results adding a Cetane booster now that does work on older engines but if you have done less than 50,000 miles you probably won't notice it.

15 years ago in a car, v-power did seem to make a difference. I got enough extra mpg to make the cost worth it. Which I wasn't expecting.

I've tried a few times in the van and I've not seen any difference.

All I can say is this.
Since January of this year, our van, a Burstner A Class, has been treated to Premium diesel
for the whole of it's running time. (with the exception of a couple of galls. recently to get me
to the next source of the 'Premium' product.)

Our consumption has improved, to the point where, over a distance of different roads etc.
we are getting more than 29 to the gallon. That'll do me.

I'm not using the Superdupa expensive stuff. I'm using either Costco or Shell.

There is a political? angle to this as I refuse to go (as much as possible) to the Supermarkets
who have been having the motorists pants down ever since Putty invaded Ukraine.

I've used it a couple of times when the difference in price was a penny or two but not took any notice if it gave better performance etc. I do however notice Total Energies diesel gives a lot more mpg so try and use that when over there.

I'm sure my stubby 6m, 3.5t A-class deploys parachutes when I start the ignition. Long motorway runs with 60mph on the speedo with cruise control with trucks queuing to pass me. I'll still only get 28mpg fill to fill.

After a while I gave up. I run at 65-70mph and just resign myself to it giving me 26mpg.

I only use premium diesel in the camper and premium petrol in the car. With both I find a definite difference in engine responsiveness and they seem to rum smoother and quieter, I'm not really concerned about MPG but I am concerned about engine health. I did revert to ordinary diesel as a comparison in the camper, just of a couple of tanks and I found it didn't drive as well and was a touch noisier. So my bottom line is why not spend a few quid more doing the best you can for vehicle you own if you feel they are getting some engine protection and drive better and since they cost well over £100K together it's a p in the ocean.

Full to full on supermarket diesel since buying the MH three years ago = 32.43mpg with an average speed of 33.63mph, but cruising at 55-60.
Blimey, I start jumping for joy if I get 25mpg.

I do let it coast up to roundabouts instead of braking.::bigsmile:
Nar, foot to the floor & try and put the boss through the screen when braking, it's big, white so got to drive like White Van Man.

Anbody looked at engine characteristics like injector variances with different fuels or additives. I noticed significant diffences when using Liqui Moly diesel purge on my skoda but none on the ducato it still runs outside the Fiat limits for injector variance even with 2 tank fulls of cleaner. Injectors knackxxxx?

Limmits +-1 for VAG Ducato is +-2 and i can get 4
