Ah, my bad. They are strict with the cut off times though, the last time I was there, there was a family from Kent who turned up at 9.03pm because of a major fire on the motorway, and the stewards was at the gate and wouldn’t let them in

The issue is the Working Time Directive that says there has to be an 11 hour rest period between shifts. The Warners marshalling/security is done by an agency. Gates are open 8am to 9pm every day leaving exactly 11 hours. That's why the gates never open early even if there is a queue cause traffic problems, and they shut on the dot to comply with the law.

Some of the showgrounds have a holding area that late comers can get into before the locked gate, but most the gate is on the perimeter. It's been a source of contention with late comers (and early arrivals) for as far back as I can remember, but difficult to see what can be done about it while maintaining the statutory marshalling requirements across the site. The main gate remains open 24 hours with a team of two overnight, but there would then not be the people to safely escort people across the site so its effectively exits only or people coming back in by car/taxi from an evening out. I know from personal experience that taxi's have to drop people at the gate.

Like most things, late arrivals could be dealt with but at a cost and we all complain about the ever increasing fees!

We won't know for sure until a fortnight before the show when Warners close advanced bookings and confirm how many are booked in Fun area and thus the number of marshalls they allocate. But at moment likely to be at least Lee and myself.
