Non toll route to Croatia (How to get through/avoid Austria basically!)

Hopefully off in the Croatia direction next week. I will go Belgium/Germany to avoid France toll roads but am struggling with Austria. Don't really want to buy a Go-Box as we are just passing through.

So,

1. Is getting through Austria from Germany to Slovenia doable without going on toll roads?

2. Is there another reasonable route?

I should have added the whole route in Austria once we got away from the congestion from the romantic road traffic was beautiful. I have never been to Austria until two days ago but it is somewhere I would like to visit again.

We went from Salzburg over to Bled non toll end of May few years back and there was still plenty of snow when we drove up and over through the ski villages
