Non starter

The best advice I will give to anyone, is, use your vehicle, do not, if possible, let it stand idle for months on end and then expect it to perform as you would want it.

Would you, after laying in bed, most of the winter, expect your muscles to run a mile without problems??

I do not know, what happened to the first part of my post, sorry!

Would suggest get the fuel filter housing checked when the filter is changed as the housing pump itself has a tendency to "fold" inside itself over time leading to air in the system and fuel starvation.. shame you're "south" of the river as I'm starting my own caravan motorhome repair business next year and would've helped where possible

Apologies for the double post.. phone glitched and then 2 popped up

no they have a fuel enrichment device which is similar & early ducatos & also VW LT's have them.

My 1991 Trafic with a 2.5 non turbo has one

Sorry for delay. I haven’t resolved issue yet but have received lots of ideas. I’m going to work my way through suggestions starting with earthing strap. I’ve ordered length of strap to fit in top of engine. Due to mobility issues I couldn’t do the one from gear box as I can’t get down to it. From what I’m reading though seems that’s not a bad thing. I’ve taken battery out and charged up at home. Now giving voltage reading 13.89v. I was going to replace but thought I’d give it a go 1st with existing battery as appears Ok.
It will take mea while but I will update on progress.
Thanks for everybody’s input and help.

Good luck.🤞🤞🤞You get it sorted.

Eureka! I eventually got around to doing something. I fixed an earthing strap at top of engine to bulkhead. Didn’t start straight away but I put jump leads onto battery and my car. After a while engine fired. I left it running for a while then turned off ignition. I re-started a no. of times and engine started first time each time. Hopefully resolved but will keep checking over coming weeks. I’m a bit concerned that wouldn’t start initially but then it hadn’t been started for 5 months previously.

Re the comment (correct) that diesels do not have a choke. Some old diesels mainly fords had a button you pulled out which gave extra fuel for cold starting and the button would return back once the engine had started. So indirectly a for of choke as in petrol engines it restricts the flow of air through the carb to create more suction of the fuel. Same effect different title
