Is it normal for the built in fan in a thetford toilet to sound like a Stuka dive bomber in full flight?
I appreciate the benefit of a toilet fan, I also see benefit in this providing a bit of, ahem! background noise. But are they all this bad and if so has anyone managed to suppress theirs?

Just the normal noise that mine makes. I will keep on switching it off as soon as it starts. I have not noticed any “major“ smell without it and having not used it I won’t have to change the filter every few months as recommended at £20+ .

The crazy thing is that the fan is near silent, the noise all comes from the vibration it makes when in situ. Whether that's because the diaphragm its fitted with is detached and my glue doesn't fix it or Whether the diaphragm design is unsuitable I don't know.

If I hold my finger on it its silent, but I can't hold my finger on it and go to the bog at the same time.
