No supply chain problems in France!

I have noticed the shelves are full but not much variety of goods, so a big long fridge is full but has only 20 different products in it.
At sainsbury on saturday there was 8 feet of shelf with one type of orange juice on it 🤷‍♂️

Could it be that they are learning from Lidl & Aldi, cutting down on the number of products and buying more cheaply from the supplier of the ones they do stock because they can buy larger quantities?

Our loacal Lidl has had loads of empty shelfs & Tesco a few.

In Germany & Holland 3 weeks ago all shelves fully stocked.

Some goods are no longer available due to import costs….can’t imagine why any suggestions ?
Well it is so bad that I thought it was possible that Morrisons was closing down Your implied reason doesn’t stack up if the rest of UK have full shelves.

Shortage of loads of simple things around South Lincs & Cheshire. Not sure if it's products or people to put them on the shelves but way fewer things than 2 years ago

It obvious, everyone's stocking up for Christmas, let's face it, the supermarkets have been selling Christmas decorations now for nearly a month.

Not sure Christmas comes as a surprise to the supply chain :ROFLMAO:
You never know, it's possible that, like the BBC TV, they have had ALL of their staff concentrating on who would be the new UK Prime Minister?

We have just returned from a wander around parts Europe, mainly France - lovely. One thing we could not help but notice by comparison with where we live in the West Country was that every food shop from the smallest corner store, to the largest Hypermarket was fully stocked with an extensive selection of every type of food item. Contrast this with our shopping trip yesterday, Tesco Extra and Lidl in Yeovil where both had many entirely empty shelves and shortages of all sorts of stuff including staples. What on earth has gone wrong?
I take it your question at the end of your post is rhetorical?

bit thin on the ground in east london

I know of, at least, one inner city farm there but your right, at least you have a number of good markets (or did when I lived in London?) :giggle:

We shop at Tesco and it’s often out of products we’re looking for. A friend tells me Morrisons in same town has similar problems.
Looks like regional variations.

Just recently in France and the shelves of the big Supermarkets Carafor, SuperU , Intermarche etc plus Bricomarch are groaning under the weight of stuff. In contrast the Lidles and Aldis are like poor relations. Even had to venture into a couple of bikes shops such as Giant store and they are full of bikes and accessories almost everything on stock and prices just under Uk prices given the Exchange rate. Just reminds me of the USA, only the Americans are friendlier.

Here in North Wales there are definitely gaps on some shelves and notices up saying supply problems. That's true in the shops, supermarkets and the cash & carry

Asda seem to be changing their policies for online shopping (because they are under new ownership?) especially for substitutes and rejected items. We've noticed that if the large bottles of orange juice we order is not available, they substitute with one small bottle of the more expensive juice (same price as the item ordered) rather than the previous way of sending the same quantity and they absorb the additional cost.
And for items you want to reject (normally silly substitutes for things out of stock), the drivers now have to take the rejected items back. Previously, especially for chilled items, the driver would cancel it off the order but then offer to leave it with you rather than taking it back

O and a lot of previously available items have disappeared from the online ordering with more expensive alternatives still available. When you get through as many loaves of bread, fruit juice, milk, butter etc etc as we do, it breaks the budget when only the premium brands are available.

That's been been my experience in France over the last 6 weeks. Haven't seen any empty shelves and the fruit, veg and fish counters a visual delight as always.

Eastern France in the few weeks up to last Wednesday (28th Sept) we noticed quite big gaps on the shelves of the major supermarkets. That's most of the way from the northern coast down to the Jura.

On the diesel subject, yes that Total stations were beginning to close off pumps, first diesel the all pumps.

Oh life in the EU is so much better isn’t it.

What a load of rubbish. It’s as bad there as it is here unless you have blue tinted glasses.
Very little is cheaper. Apart from fuel. Shelves are just as empty and whatever is on the shelves is more expensive.
Having just returned from 3 months in France on a small budget we shopped at various places and found the same all over France but no let’s come back and start scaremongering.

The shelves were empty at our Tesco as well. Oh yes there was a sign saying getting ready for Xmas.
Rant over

I assume you mean France as it isn't in Spain, either short of and far far cheaper.

France has been dear for many, many years. It has now got far dearer.

France still is and always has been dear for food.

On our recent trip we noticed a distinct lack of vegetables, especially green veg with the exception of green beans but that was a reflection of the drought weather. It had been hidden by more varieties of other stuff to fill the shelves.

When in France look at the eye watering prices for legs or shoulders of lamb!

As to this country we have allowed markets to become dominated by huge suppliers who then dictate prices to farmers eg milk and pork. Small abattoirs have gone and pigs now have to go via the big producers who control the prices to both supplier and customer with fat profits for them.

Tescos are always running out in our area Andover - Amesbury🤬

No problems here in West yorkshire ,cheaper than France last week and Mrs Georgio says we have better choice of fresh produce.but I so much like french bread. Over the next few years I am expecting the rage of products in the big four to reduce to compete with lol and aldi

You're right it is getting a bit pricey. However our main four expenditures when motorhoming in France are -

1) Diesel
2) Food
3) Alcohol
4) Overnight stops

and with three of the four currently being significantly cheaper than in the UK then I can't really complain.

Regarding french food supply and prices - we too have noticed the lack of green veg (except green beans) this year, and all other fruit and veg does seem more expensive than previous years. I think the drought has caused poor crop yields.
