Less exploring our options for a circular route to northern Italy and north Spain and back again , clock wise or anti clockwise and it worked out cheaper ( excluding any discounts , tescos vouchers , etc ) to do a one way trip on the Chunnel and a one way trip on the Poole Brittany ferry rather than a return trip .

You’d have thought they would incentivise you to go both ways with them ?

That's how I always do it, out on the tunnel with Tesco vouchers and back on the ferry, booked a week or 2 in advance.

The tunnel is getting expensive though and tesco vouchers aren't worth as much. There will probably come a time we just use the ferry.

Booking 2 singles with Brittany ferries gives much moe flexibility anyway. If you book a return , once youve made the outward journey you can’t change the return online. Or that’s how it used to be. Hopefully different with a full Flexi ticket but I wouldn’t risk it. Got caught once years ago when a novice and discovered their phone number only works Monday to Friday!

We are looking at a quick trip to France in our motorhome in March.

Initial checks on-line show £370 two ways with Tunnel and £189 two ways Newhaven Dieppe ferry.

We have the equivalent value of £300 in Tesco vouchers so will use the Tunnel this time but they are pricing them selves out of the market for us.

No, once the outward journey is made, the flexibility for the return leg is gone.

We needed to come home a week early in June and it was a pain, with the woman from Brittany Ferries telling us to book two separate flexible tickets in future.

Seems a bit hit and miss most of our trips we book a return Newhaven/Dieppe, we have changed the return several times either not been charged or charged £10 or £20 pot luck who you speak to.

On our last trip we were on our way back up to Dieppe and Mi's mum got taken into hospital so I phoned to see if we could get on a ferry that day it was only a day earlier. Girl I spoke to wanted £136 to change the booking as ferry was nearly full, said I'd think about it.
I phoned back 1½ hours later girl I spoke to then said no problem but I will have to charge you £10.

I'm having similar issues with the tunnel. We are only having 6 weeks due to house move so I'm trying to amend return and they want 46 quid extra for a trip at same time on same day (Wednesday) but 3 weeks earlier, thought it might be half term or something but apparently not. Will be last time I use them if I do have to pay that much.
