No more Fiat 160 Bhp's

Perhaps by dropping the 160BHP engine FIAT are hoping more people will pay even more and go for the 180BHP unit, especially for bigger/heavier vehicles?

There didn't do a 2.3, 160, I think you mean 150.
My 150 was very sluggish until it had done 5000 and not fully on song until 10000.
See how it is after you have racked up 10k.
Fiat don't consider them run in until 15k.
Mine is a 160bhp 2.3
2287 cc = 2.3
118kw =158.2bhp

Edited my post to include photo of my V5.
Lenny. It's a 138db compactine with 9 speed. Drives really nicely.

I've just ordered a 141LE with the 180, 9 speed.

120’s are going as well. In truth I think Fiat are pulling out of motorhomes.

Can't see that happening they have the biggest share of the market.

Having said that Mercedes have made huge inroads with the FWD. About 75% of Hymers are now on the Merc and they are Europe's largest converter. They had an exclusive for the first year on the FWD.

You say Fiat, but don't forget a large range of different brands of van are all made at the same factory. The European RV market is huge, so I'd be surprised if Fiat or any other major supplier pulls out.

I think this is just a trimming of the range, particularly of RHD models.

When sober tomorrow I will do a proper post about the state of all the manufacturers

So what do you do if you have a old van just not go to France

I am baffled as to why "Fiat are pulling out of motorhomes" when surely they are only supplying a chassis/engine & maybe the cab, to all sorts of vehicle manufacturers. Doesn't seem to add up to me.

There are a lot of MH's out there that have been "mapped" without it being properly recorded and my experience is that it does nothing for the fuel consumption, let alone the legality issues, to say the least. Also, I cannot understand why anyone would want to try and get 85mph out of a MH in the first place, but maybe one explains the other.
Cb.

85 was a lovely cruising speed on empty roads , I always liked speed if it's safe to do so, I suppose when I was a young apprentice in the 1960's the mechanic I was training under took me on a road test in a Daimler Majestic Major V8 at a 100 mph on a single carriage road loved every minute of it

I think you might be right. A lot of vans, especially PVCs, which were Fiat are now Citroën or Peugeot based.
Fiat was always more expensive but necessary for the auto box. I believe this is no longer the case.

Taking it out makes a nice space for cups and other, more useful stuff.
Leave the drop down bed out as well and there is lots more extra cupboard space. Our cupboards are now so much better arranged that I can actually get to things I want without hassle.

Should be fine though as long as done by a reputable company
Not sure what the difference is on the 160
Ive had my car go from 351 to 451
And been fine
I don’t doubt that:
i) The ECU will log all changes, even if they are subsequently reversed.
ii) The manufacturer will jump at any opportunity to void the warranty if something expensive happens.

FWD Mercedes vans are very poor compared to the RWD versions.

Poor traction, much larger turning circle, don’t tow as well.

I considered buying a new SWB (L1) Sprinter van in the UK. Dealers cannot be bothered selling you one. Especially as I wanted LHD. Seems Mercedes only supply one Engine option in SWB+RWD and that’s manual only.

Different story in Germany. More options and with 7G-Tronic Auto in RWD.

My last motorhome was on a 2015 Mercedes RWD chassis. I was not particularly impressed with the ride or handling and the traction was not good on wet grass.

Apparently most motorhomes are sold with the 9 speed auto, which has never been available on the 120. So maybe for semi and fully integrated chassis, they are deleting it entirely.

I suspect 120 will remain for panel vans though. White van man likes them cheap!

Not sure about the series but new in 2015 with AdBlue, smart alternator and Euro 6 rating. Hymer ML-I 580. It was prone to wandering off a straight line unless you concentrated very hard on the steering and I am not alone in reporting this issue. Current motorhome is a Carthago with Al-Ko chassis. It is a lot smoother, more stable and has less road noise. With the traction button on I have had no problems on wet grass.
