NO MO HO NO MO!

I thought that may be the case, may be worth reimporting to the UK when we decide to sell, I still use my son's address so even if we stay here it would still be possible to re import to the UK, no idea what it would cost though.
If you get matriculated here--- sell it here----prices are much higher !!----especially for 3.5t---- ours was 6 ton and not so good to sell here---- we did take it back to uk to sell it (still on uk plates)

Good luck with your future plans 🙂

I don't know you but I do admire you. You have done what many people speak about and for various reasons can't make the leap, us being some of those people.Enjoy your static life.

Congratulations Dave n Jaci

Welcome to your New Home ..
So glad things all worked out for you ...wishing we were there still with you both ... never mind the beer get the G n Ts ready for when we are there when travel is allowed again and some of that chinese cooking you been learning to do

We are hoping to keep it for a good few years if everything works out, we will probably return to live in the UK at some point depending on health really, we are not getting any younger:Smile:

We've had 13 years travelling and then becoming resident in Portugal.

Actually, not true for motorhomes, as I found out!

The difference is in the matriculation tax. For cars, it’s way way higher, hence why cars here are soooo expensive. However, the tax on motorhomes is relatively low, and the prices are not ridiculous like cars.
( Ive just paid about 2.5 times the price for the car I’m buying compared to its U.K. price😳)

One chap ( a dealer) I communicated with, as I was trying to px the camper for a car, pointed out that he could, and frequently does, buy vans from Germany to import and matriculate here. He showed me a similar van to mine, but a 2019 model, matriculated here would be about €40k. I was asking (suggesting!) €33k for my 2012. Too much for the market. (I sold it for €28500, basically the same as I paid for it in £ 2 years ago.)

The import duty on my van was €1200. For a car of similar age/value it would be in excess of €10k 😳

Brilliant news - really happy for you both.

When all this crap sorts itself out, we hope to tour Spain and Portugal again, so will look you up!

This will always be one of my favourite photos - memories of a typical fun night in the marquee .....

All the best to you both. I have fond memories of some memorable meets! 👍

Good luck with your new home Dave and Jac, got some good memories of you both, upstairs in the Old Boot in Chester, The Sir William Peel cider festival in Sandy and some bar in Torre del Mar where we got ratted. May get down to the Algarve when the covid is sorted. In the meantime enjoy your time in the sun.

Well, that’s it, the end of our MH days!

We started a mere 11 years ago, and went FT for the best part of 10 years!
In that time, we had 2 campervans, 2 C Class, 2 A class, an American RV, a fifth wheel outfit, and a caravan! Left the U.K. for good in 2015, Lived in a villa and an appt in Spain, but life goes on and things and aspirations change! Been there, done that! Sold the last camper last week😉

This forum was invaluable throughout that time, and we have made many freinds, for which I thank you 😘

Now settled in the Algarve, bought a 3 year old large (40’x12.5’) static ‘mobile home’ on the residential part of Alvor camping, got my new car on order, and very happy to settle now.......for a few years at least! ( I expect to see a few of you on your travels when circumstances allow🤷‍♂️....there will always be a cold one in the fridge😉)

I‘ll still lurk, offer any info and advice I can if relevant, and mainly continue to be slightly sarcastic and take the mick.......all in the best possible taste🤣
I admire and envy you, my favourite place on the Algarve, had a fabulous winter in Alvor last year 25+deg.daily, a bit different here in uk, locked down and not able to get down there this winter, down to minus —7 deg. here quite often, enjoy your future plans may even see you there next winter, tho I suspect you might have gone back on the Motorhome trail by then.

Dave, we hope it all works out for you and Jackie and not forgetting Ozzie.

We loved all of our stays in Alvor, so we hope to pop in to see you both when we are next in the Algarve. I think my liver has recovered enough now to risk another session :ROFLMAO: . Shame about them closing the Aire. How much does your campsite charge for short stays?

Hope we can arrange it when there is a wedding (or funeral) for Jackie to crash ..........

We’ll long time no see Dave and Jackie and pooch.
glad it’s all gone well and the vans gone, another out of the way.
hope your settling in okay, but you were pretty static with your last one so be used to it now.
we’ve sold the outlaw and downgraded to a lwb tranny now, great for parking.
hope to see you one day again, on our travels.
love Susie & Grumpy

Great choice. So now a good excuse to fly down to Alvor again. Just been there twice, first time flown in, second time motorhomed in.

@Brewery Dave.
Rita and I send our very best wishes to you and Jacque, in your new chapter of life abroad. (y)

We've not ventured into Portugal yet with the MH, but would love to at some stage, where we can hopefully meet up for a few :drinks:

Take care of each other. (y)

Cheers,

Jock & Rita. :)

Met you once at your 'meet' about 5 years ago - no gas, no bedding - thanks for the warm welcome - and a great weekend - you are a truly nice couple - best of luck - you deserve it

Things change we have always had a smile/laugh when we have been in your and Jac's company wishing you well in the next stage of your adventure because I would never expect it to be dull
