Nightmare in Nijmegen

Stopped over at Nijmegen yesterday , went to first campsite it was closed for winter???? went to another which was closed due to loss of licenses??? all are still on various apps .
Now near town centre where there is a city campervan site listed , arrived there only to be told I will get 2x100 euro fines for entering an illegal area monitored by camera?? no signs anywhere ???and that the site is now closed due to no permits !!!!!
Then now getting very angry I drove out of Nijmegen at midnight heading to Kleve in Germany only to be stopped by Dutch police leaving Nijmegen who warned me not to drive in the city in a Motorhome as they are banned and another violation would get me a 140 euro fine ????? WTF
so arrived in Kleve where a welcoming local german municiple Motorhome park was easily found and had a good rest , we will be staying now for a day or 2

Seems the Dutch now actively anti Motorhomes ,, spoke with some Dutch owners onsite in Kleve this morning who confirmed my view about Dutch authorities removing many motorhome parking facility licenses and permits
 
Interested in who said this. It would be sensible to have a single EU sticker but my understanding was that you needed separate ones for individual countries and now electronic permits for certain towns too.

In May 23 I bought a new car it’s a Crit air 2, a SEAT Ateca, petrol, from the SEAT garage in Guardamar Del Segura, near Torrevieja, Alicante, it’s my Spanish run around while at our villa in Ciudad Quesada, Rojales, Alicante. the company who supplied it explained that the Spanish Crit Air sticker allowed me into Barcelona and Madrid and other cities in Spain that are due to impose restrictions and was accepted through out Europe as the system and colours are the same for that reason. He seemed very knowledgable about the subject. But remember it’s what he told me, I have no evidence, none was asked for or given. It did seem logical though.. I have a Crit Air on my MoHo and my Ford Edge they are all the same, the Spanish one only differs in size, it’s larger by an inch.

If you’re near a TUV Service centre, I believe you can get a German one there or at some car dealerships. I’m sure there must be a list somewhere of participating garages.🤷‍♂️
I tried that last year. If your V5 doesn’t specify the Euro number some centres don’t have access to the database to get it from your VIN number. I found the tuv Broken Link Removed easy to use

Not very sure about the numbers/colours being the same. I got this list from Spain when I discovered they can’t deal with a foreign- registered vehicle. Spain will accept other countries’ stickers - but not so sure it goes the other way…

Like I said, it’s what the guy told me I have no evidence. I never even looked into it

Had red,yellow & green.The red & yellow were for older polluting vehciles & are no longer valid & there is only a green one now.

The German requirements aren't very strict

Eligibility for the green emissions sticker​

The following vehicles are eligible for the green sticker:

  • Vehicles equipped with an electric engine such as the Tesla Model S.
  • Vehicles equipped with a petrol, LPG or hybrid engine that meet the requirements of emission standard EURO 1 (1 January 1993 and newer).
  • Passenger vehicles (M1) and light commercial vehicles (N1) with a diesel engine that meet emission standard EURO 4 (1 January 2006 and newer).
  • Trucks (N2 and N3) and buses (M2 and M3) with a diesel engine that meet emission standard EURO 4 (1 October 2006 and newer).
  • Vehicles equipped with a diesel engine that meet emission standard EURO 3 and are retrofitted with a diesel particulate filter (DPF).

Currently in Holland returning from Norway. We have found it difficult in Holland. Stayed at Gaasper Camping to visit Amsterdam. Not cheap but well run and maintained. If anyone goes there, provided your van doesn't obviously look over 4,500 kgs, when asked tell them it is 4,500kgs. If you tell them it is over 4,500 kgs they charge and EXTRA 12 euros 50 cents!! We are now having an extended stay at Haarlem because my wife has to go to hospital for an operation on a finger after falling off her bike. Haarlem is a really nice place. We are on a Stellplatz/Aire. Not cheap but the town is close and the guy that runs it is very helpful and pleasant. It is not the most attractive park up but needs must.. We would like to visit Rotterdam. Does anyone know of a suitable place to stop with public transport into the city?

Recently returned from 10 days in Holland on both sites and a race track which we normally do twice a year and had no problems whatsoever lovely site in venray called parc de witte and camping de vogel in the south and we was treated very well by the friendly locals only problem was the delays on the antwerp ring road

Theres always delays on the Antwerp ring road, I thought I’d give it another chance a week last Friday…BIG MISTAKE!! It’s worse than the Brussels’s ring road, they go on about the M25 but it’s a breeze at the side of these two🤷‍♂️🙄

Haven’t bothered with any stickers, will just wing it until they catch me😁😁 been all over Europe for the last 2+ years and not heard of anyone being pulled over.
Just another bureaucratic mess that has been badly thought out again.

This is where I am been twice down to the Alps this year with no problem.
Although our Motorhome is a 22 plate and we generally stay clear of big cities.

We stay away although a lot of German towns require it, once they have caught and shot a few for not having them I might think about getting some😳😳

Speaking this morning with a Dutch lady who is visiting my neighbour who is her Cousin from South Africa, she has a Detleff Van .i asked her about my experience In Nijmegen back in 2023 , the police response , the closed Camping and MOHO parks etc ...
She is from Delft and she has a driveway to park her van on , but she said that people without their own parking in Holland now have big problems and cannot store vans on street , they have to find off road storage many are using Germany as its cheaper and friendlier .. I also asked her about all the closed camping sites around Nijmegen she said many sites all over Holland are not getting licenses renewed by authorities or went bankrupt during covid , also problems with Green policies , she says she tours outside Holland . Many fellow Dutch motorhomers are not happy , many carparks , beaches, campsites and attractions now no go areas ...
She say parking outside her house in Delft and sleeping overnight would get her a 200euro fine, even working on her van if it was on the street is illegal . But here in UK its OK although she admits Rest of EU is much better and cheaper than UK
