Stopped over at Nijmegen yesterday , went to first campsite it was closed for winter???? went to another which was closed due to loss of licenses??? all are still on various apps .
Now near town centre where there is a city campervan site listed , arrived there only to be told I will get 2x100 euro fines for entering an illegal area monitored by camera?? no signs anywhere ???and that the site is now closed due to no permits !!!!!
Then now getting very angry I drove out of Nijmegen at midnight heading to Kleve in Germany only to be stopped by Dutch police leaving Nijmegen who warned me not to drive in the city in a Motorhome as they are banned and another violation would get me a 140 euro fine ????? WTF
so arrived in Kleve where a welcoming local german municiple Motorhome park was easily found and had a good rest , we will be staying now for a day or 2

Seems the Dutch now actively anti Motorhomes ,, spoke with some Dutch owners onsite in Kleve this morning who confirmed my view about Dutch authorities removing many motorhome parking facility licenses and permits

Reckon thats an emission issue? Are you Euro 6? It's going to get incredibly confusing over the next few years with each country/town/region being able to set up their own clean air zones. As well as a plakette for Germany and a Crit Air for france I also had to register with Gent to go into their clean air zone. It's a bit of a free for all. I'm just about to download this app
https://www.green-zones.eu/en/app which tells you where all the zones are in Europe. I'll give it a whirl and see what happens!

We're off to Netherlands in October for a week. The site has accepted our booking and money!
We're Euro 6.
This is worrying. Are there any restrictions around Eindhoven? We're also going round Ghent and Antwerp.

I've got German, French and Swiss stickers.

Don't bother with this app Soycd. It is grotesquely expensive. You pay for route finding, you pay for address location, they try to charge £29 for the French Crit Air and then the same again for the Umplakette.
But most of all, if you are a motorhome they try to whack you with an extra charge of ... wait for it ...

SEVEN QUID A MONTH!!!

I uninstalled it.

Yep!! I just noticed that, but thanks anyway DDJC. I was a bit suspicious when it had a 2 star review on the app store. I've just deleted it!

Depends on how far you are going into the cities. We were going right to the centre of Gent in our car so we needed to register, below is the link, we did not have to pay.
Seems that if you stick to the motorways around the cities you are generally ok.

But AFAIK you can still access the map function to locate the LEZ zones of European cities/towns for free? If you want more detailed location or route guidance then it gets pricey.

How heavy is your motorhome?
According to the available info, only vehicles over 3500 are affected.

My Van is under 3500kgs , there was no mention of weight by the police its just motorhomes not welcome in Nijmegen area thats why the campsites and parking permits have been withdrawn ???

You need to register online for both Ghent and Antwerp, you have to do it seperately.

Received this:

"Dear Sir/Madam

Your application for the low emission zone has been approved.
Your vehicle with number plate [mine] may enter the low emission zone from 06/09/2023 00:00 to a still undetermined date after 31/12/2027 .
Attention: This registration entitles the vehicle to enter any low emission zone in Flanders, including the LEZ of Ghent. However, this registration is not valid for the LEZ in Brussels. For more info, visit the website of LEZ Brussels."

So whether you do Antwerp or Gent, you get all the LEZ in Vlaanderen, but not Wallonia.

Good grief, roll on 50 years when we’ll all be driving fully electric Motorhome/cars and people will be saying” Remember all those years ago when they had areas you couldn’t drive in and huge fines, the bad old days”

We might sell ours and wait 50 years before getting another.

If you’re near a TUV Service centre, I believe you can get a German one there or at some car dealerships. I’m sure there must be a list somewhere of participating garages.🤷‍♂️

I don't think it will ever happen , 5 years after everything is meant to go electric there will be serious backtracking when people realise its more harmful to the environment mining the lithium and scrapping perfectly good vehicles.

I use Green Zones all the time when touring Europe, no need to subscribe to view the LEZs... a very useful app.

Just don't pay for any 'extras'..

That seems consistent with the Dutch government's policy to persecute farmers, that has led to many protests by their farmers and supporters. They are using EU regulations intended to reduce pollution from farmland as a cloak for grabbing farmland to build more housing. It would not surprise me if there is a similar policy behind forced closure of campsites, that have potential for new housing development.

No wonder Dutch caravanners are found in large numbers all over the rest of Europe.

So next year we arrive in Amsterdam by ferry and then plan was to stop at Arnhem Bridge before heading down the rhine toward Remagen

However, after reading about Nijmegen Im now wondering if the same restrictions are in place at Arnhem Bridge.

I have been told that my Crit Air sticker (number 2 yellow, Euro6 compliant) will be accepted across the whole of the EU. If not you would not see out of your windscreen by the time you put 27 stickers on it.

Interested in who said this. It would be sensible to have a single EU sticker but my understanding was that you needed separate ones for individual countries and now electronic permits for certain towns too.

Wandering around Holland right now and not finding issues - though we’ve not tried Nijmegen. A shock to read your post jerryz Will try to keep wary. We use P4N and look for recent reviews - we find them mostly accurate.

Here at Le Vigan, France, we are surrounded by Dutch vans. Easily more Dutch vans than French ones. A sprinkle of UK vans and one or two German. We are returning from Rotterdam so will take care in Holland in the light of this thread!
