Night heater. (45 Viewers)

Evening funsters, any recommendations for a nightheater for my mh bailey autograph, being a hgv driver for 40 years and had various lorries with night heaters thats not been reliable think the best is eberspacher so I'm looking for any info regarding if any of the funsters has ideas of makes etc.

Yes its got the alde heating , it's just a thought about installing a night heater for wild camping as the alde heating uses more gas, you've got to put heating full bung up here in the north artic scotland

Uses more gas than what?

You have Alde and you wish to add a, presumably, diesel powered auxiliary heater?

Gas has a higher power density than diesel.

I’m not following your reasoning.

Diesel heater wise, if you really want one, a Chinese £100 one will do the job fine.

I don’t see the need to heat anything during the night in mainland Europe. But if you do, just fire up the heating you have. At least that is laid by the water pipes so stops them freezing.

Like you Gazza1958 I'm an Eberspacher fan despite the cost. Our new MAN TGE has a Truma 4E which works well but I like the option of diesel heating enough to have fitted a 4kW Eber as well. We're currently away in France and have had a few cold nights where the Eberspacher can be left on standby set at the required temperature just like a domestic central heating system.
It does mean that we don't have to consider gas usage as our tank holds enough for months none heating use. Also if an EHU is taken into consideration we have three different options for heating.
I've always used Eberspachers for camper heating and never noticed any significant extra fuel usage.

For info. Our Truma diesel/electric heating system is simply fantastic in heat production and knocks spots of the Eberspachers we have had on the boats. Without looking I think it's a Truma 6de or something like that.

I agree with most of what you are saying but you are a bit adrift on -

Diesel has 10kWh energy per litre whereas Propane is only 7kWh per litre.

Cheap non super expensive Chinese diesel heater for us! Eber can still breakdown and cost huge amount to replace whereas the Chinese are an exact copy and if it breaks buy a new one. Had one fitted and for two years and no problem, does the job perfectly in a large space. Make sure youve enough battery for startup, same as eber.

Good reply rod_vw, I'll be looking for a 4kw Eber and have it fitted before the winter sets in as we're planning for a a wee jaunt up the west coast to gairloch and torridon area which is not the warmest of places in December.

I was lucky to spot a new 4kW Eberspacher complete kit for sale at a good price and had already investigated the OEM brackets etc. to fit it under our MAN TGE (VW Crafter in disguise). Having fitted a number my self before it was a no brainier to do this one.
I'm currently sat warming my feet by the front outlet!

Chinese diesel, Truma LPG / 240v blown air covers all the bases for us. Which one gets used depends on which fuel is most readily available when it needs using

Is it QUIET ?
The Eberspacher I had on a boat was unusable in a marina, sounded like a gas turbine starting up

We only have a diesel heater at home (Chinese) and it's also loud on start up, but just ticks over quietly after the initial start up.

I wouldn't hesitate to fit a similar unit in the motorhome if I felt we needed it. With regards to the Truma diesel, I'm sure RogerIvy fitted one and explained it on his YouTube channel

My last van had no heating.
My current one has an eberspacher. It’s worked faultlessly for the ten years I’ve owned my van. Very efficient. Sips diesel (barely notice any change in fuel use when checking mpg). Noisy on startup but then quiet once up to temp. Very adjustable for temp.
I’m a big fan.
