NFU travel insurance problem

We have the Nationwide flex plus account which includes travel insurance. We pay extra for an 80 day extension. I have confirmed that Covid is covered when we travel down to Spain, however there will be no cover for travel disruption or cancellation if the tickets were booked after the start of lockdown in March.
Cheers

Will Nationwide provide medical cover if Spain is still on the Foreign Office list advising against non-essential travel???

I think you will find that once on the FO list the insurance companies have a get out

My son lives in The Netherlands. Our travel insurance is void if we travel against FCO guidelines.

Even if we did, we would have to find somewhere to isolate / quarantine ourselves BEFORE going to my sons home. That’s a none starter. Even if we could find somewhere to stay for the first 14 days, after our visit we’d have to isolate / quarantine for another 14 days on return.

Pay your money, and take your chance in these strange times. (y)

Look again at the PO Travel Insurance terms. The website clearly states that there is no policy cover for travel through or to countries that the Foreign Office advises against travelling to. As has already been said, a medical repatriation is not covered by the EHIC and could be very expensive if you were unlucky enough to be involved in any incident resulting in serious injury. I have been told that HIGOS Insurance Brokers - 01458 270 320 (ask for Jade) has a policy that will provide the cover that you require. Good Luck!!!
I think what it says is that there is no policy cover for anything Covid related - I am OK with that and anyway - I am three days from being home now.

Radio 5 this afternoon stated that if you drive directly from Germany and go through the tunnel then no quarantine requirement (NB this is not the same if you go on the ferry)

The simple answer is yes, and they do cover covid. I think there is possibly a distinction in the Insurance world between FCO advice against essential travel and no travel. We were also offered a price for cover for existing medical issues at a substantially increased premium. We have paid for 90 day trip cover for £138 in addition to the price we pay for the account.
