I’m a Newbie
Hello I’m Andy, I recently bought my first motorhome a 1996 VW Compass Calypso. The hab door seems out of alignment to me, around the top there’s a gap that starts off small but widens the closer it gets to the edge of the door frame on the lock side and at the bottom it’s opposite where on the lock side it’s almost flush and then widens as it gets to the hinge side. I can see daylight out of the top half from inside but luckily there’s been no ingress, the rubber seals need changing anyway. Can I straighten the door out? And if so how can I do it? I don’t want to start doing anything until I’ve got a good idea of what to do and i Couldn’t find any videos on the tube that helped. I’d really appreciate any advice anyone could offer me! Thanks, Andy

Think we definitely need to see some pictures of this. Did you not notice the gap before buying, or was you aware of it from scratch.

Hopefully is just in need to adjustment or new hinge and not twisted in any way.

Oh and welcome to Fun 🤩

Maybe the catches aren't engaging. Could just be a broken spring on the catch.

l'll not suggest the van is distorted, so it must be the door (I hope). Nonetheless start with a setsquare to check that it is the door out of square. It must, I guess, be that the corners have lost integrity and become loose or broken. I would want to use the set square and try squareing up the door to see what has become loose.

thanks To everyone that replied. I didn’t notice this when I bought it no. How bad is it I’m looking at?

My hab door goes out of kilter if it blows shut while the dog’s tie-out is in the way. The hinges bend out of shape and require a well aimed whack with a mallet and piece of wood.

Maybe yours has had a similar problem?

Here’s the best pics I could get as my driveway is quite narrow.
