New tyre laws in Germany

When changing a flat tyre in Portugal
The police officers asked is the spare wheel the same tyre as all the rest.
Yes my reply. As he said that all tyres need to be the same not like the UK where they have to be on the same axle.

I use winter tyres all year round with no problems. Although they don't appear to wear any faster for me I understand others think they do. As far as I'm concerned it's just something else I don't have to worry about.
Continental Vanco Winter 2.

I do too, and with 4-5,000 miles p.a. I expect to change them on age basis before wear - I would hate to do the same with 2 sets.

To complicate things, in some EU countries, winter tyres or All Season ("year round") tyres are illegal in summer...

As I understand things, winter/all season tyres are regarded as unsafe during the summer months because they increase braking distances, wear quicker, etc.

I know for a fact that Swedish Police have been pulling foreign registered vehicles and issuing fines and "körförbud" (Prohibition of Use) until the tyres were changed for summer ones. I believe other countries are following suit, but dont know for certain.

I can only find a requirement to remove Studded tyres by April 15 , can you supply law that requires "high friction tyres" to be taken off outside winter ?

The only reason I know about this is that a family I was talking to in July got fined for having winter tyres on their vehicle.

Who determines “winter conditions”, or is it defined by certain dates.
You can have a half inch of hailstones on the road in June!
