New TV for the camper

Cello with Android. Use the Sat system in a lot of France and use the internet if further afield. No longer move the van to get a picture and future vans will not have the Sat Dome.

The spec for our model attached -
Spec's for their other models are available on the link in previous post.
Don't see any reason why it wouldn't work in France.
Ok just to say this isn’t a my tv is better than yours but do have a look at the spec and consider if it is going to meet your needs. The Ferguson is HD ready, the current Avtex is Full HD so it’s in these unseen and confusing area’s that may explain cost difference. Having said this you buy what you are happy with.

The previous link had the spec for the Ferguson and this is the Avtex

You can see the difference but again some won’t want all the Avtex features or see the value in the additional cost.

Full HD or HD Ready 1080p televisions are able to handle a High Definition signal (i.e. 1080 horizontal scan lines of image display resolution). The “p” stands for progressive scan. Many Full HD TVs include an in-built HD tuner, such as Freeview HD or Freesat HD, which enables the TV to receive HD channels without having to add an extra external source.

Televisions marked as “HD Ready” are able to handle a High Definition signal. They will display 720 horizontal scan lines of image display resolution, which is not Full HD. These TVs will not have an HD tuner built in, so the HD services would need to be provided by an external source such as Sky, Virgin or a Blu-Ray player.

Our Avtex powered up and then issued a warning about over voltage and shut itself down. I must admit I was a bit surprised so headed for the control panel only to find the batteries at 17.5 volts. As we were on EHU first thing I did was remove the power and it was still as bad so next to get disconnected was the solar panel and bingo back to normal. Solar controller went in the bin and new one ordered. Seems like cheap solar controllers are just that .. Cheap .. Everything survived even the TV so Avtex also have some form of voltage sensing inside and an automatic shut off before any damage occurs.

We use an HDMI Wireless Dongle and a Samsung Tab S4 to send downloaded series off Netflix. You are allowed to download up to 100 episodes / films per device so also download episodes / films to iPad and use that with HDMI wireless dongle as well.

And not taken as a "mine is better than yours response" but just to build on it.(y)

We wanted a 24" rather than a 21" unit and looked at the options out there. Agreed the Avtex L249DRS-PRO (the 24" version of your link) does have functionality, the main one being multiple tuners enabling watching and recording different channels, the Ferguson doesn't have.

There's a bit of a debate about the Full HD \ HD Ready status of the Ferguson as you'll see from the copy of the spec I attached. It says Full HD in the heading but quotes 1366 x 768 HD Ready in the tables. I queried this with Cello and was advised it was actually Full HD. Not one to be "fobbed" off I checked with the panel manufacturer and their spec says HD Ready. I think what Cello meant was it had HD tuners (which it has) but the screen is only HD Ready.

As you say "buy what meets your needs" so, given we have never recorded anything whilst away and the other additionals are minor we decided that for a saving of nigh on £300 the Ferguson was the one for us.

As an aside, before installing the Ferguson in the motorhome I had it sitting next to our 65" 4k TV at home and once the picture settings were adjusted my old weary eyes couldn't see a heck of a lot of difference between them! Maybe I should dig the old 20" colour crt out the loft!:giggle:

Thank you very much for the info would be good if French progammes came up with English sub titles:D
Since they are made for French folk why on earth would they put English sub-titles?

It could be considered a social service if subtitles were added, maybe we could ask if our MEP's could submit a request to do so, they will all be sitting there for the next few years so they may as well make themselves useful

Showaddywaddy has gone? Is my life over?

As it happens there’s no need for Beachy Head just yet. Dust off your Teddy coat, buff up your blue suede shoes and get yourself down to Bognor Regis on the 23rd September for a smorgasbord of 70’s favourites. All hopefully available on VHS.

If we are out of the EU won't they have to come home?

I believe they will be made redundant. What will they do after that? Seek to stand for Westminster \ Edinburgh \ Cardiff \ Stormont or hope to get a Lordship?
