New Spanish Tolls Not just motorways

Not just commute,,think average journey in UK is three miles,,Can't believe that unless the weather is lousy anyone would use their car for such a short trip..Very lazy nation. My two sons are in their mid 50s and won't walk anywhere..BUSBY
I guess time of day and the area in which they are traveling might make a difference

We should aspire to work where we live or live where we work.
We did but eventually house prices rose so much people looked farther afield .Then they rose so farther was looked ,& farther ,& farther. I knew of people in Devon who worked in the City & drove daily. My mate works from home in Devon but has to go to the office once a week in Royal Leamington spa. When I worked in London in an oil refinery the production staff were buying houses further & further out. Mainly Essex coast & upwards. Only transport was driving due to time as public transport it couldn't be done.
The government as in the dole office expects a person to travel an hour at least to commute for a job.
I knew people in Wiltshire who moved house because 4 miles was "too far to travel to work"

Spain could steal a march on other EU countries, by forgetting the tolls increases and extend the 90 day rule, this would not only help the economy , but, stop individual tax rises for the population

If road charging is used in future I doubt it will be based on any technology external to the vehicle. Engine ECUs already record mileage. It isn't difficult to forsee mileage being downloaded at, say, MoT time and a charge applied based on the reading. Very slightly increased sophistication could be used to determine mileage driven on particular types of road or roads in a particular location.

My Daughters

Eldest, 38, will probably never drive. Walks and uses public transport.
Middle, 32, bit of a mixture
Youngest, will get in the car to go to the shop at the end of the road.

That said. youngest two now live in the UAE, nobody walks there.

Spain are looking to charge 1 cent per km in order to receive funding of 140 billion euros from the E.U. for road improvements...Thought they already had some of the finest roads in Europe,, BUSBY.

The easiest way to achieve this is by using an additional fuel tax escalator rather than tolls and requires no infrastructure, this catches everybody.

There is no doubt taxes will rise on everything to pay for covid, so I guess they think by putting a bit on everything everyone pays a bit.
