I understand now but still leaves me with the problem of amending the frequencies in the decoder, is there a simple way of doing this?
Most channels have not changed their frequencies for years.
Rarely do the "main" channel change frequencies.
Although minor ones do..for example Sky News (both UK and Ireland versions), changed frequencies this past few weeks...
If you use a Sky or freesat box then these automatically update to new frequencies anyway.
And most other decoders allow you to do a search for channels (and frequencies) anyway
(if you do best turn on Network search ( NIT) as this will update the receiver with any new frequencies it does not already have stored.)

But if you want to do it manually, here is a list for all UK TV satellite channels, and their frequencies, and which satellite and beams they are on : https://www.lyngsat.com/packages/Sky-UK.html

This is what the screen on the TV shows me when I go onto SETUP and select Satellite so not sure where to go from here to get non German progammes ??

Well, if you are getting German channels, and want UK channels, then you need to get the dish moved from Astra 1 to Astra 2.
No matter what satellite you select on a decoder, it can still only scan the frequencies it finds on the satellite that the dish is aligned to...
ie you can select ANY satellite from that satellite list on the decoder, but it will still only find German channels from Astra 1, as that is where your dish is pointing to.
So, if i understand things, you need to select Astra 2 on your oyster system, and hope that locks onto the correct satellites before you scan for UK channels - assuming two things : 1) that your dish is large enough for wherever you are to get the uk channels you want, 2) that your Oyster is programmed to look for an active frequency on Astra 2 satellites.
