Don't own a MH yet

15 years under canvas, 13 years in a caravan
New, we both said. We'll have a new one. Why wouldn't we?

We even knew it was going to be a Globecar:h:

However, due to the price tag, our budget, hating debt, loans, HP and, having the debt put a dent in the touring and travelling experience and, the pre loved Globecar market being less than buoyant. We have decided not to buy new. To buy pre loved:smiley:

When we joined this forum, we never expected so much advice, so many suggestions and so much information. People have really been incredibly helpful.
So our search continues :)
Making the decision to buy pre loved also means we can look for and buy soon. We need to get touring and travelling. We sold our caravan at Easter and we need holidays :roflmto:
Armed with all the information from MH owning experts, and the resources from the Motorhome Fun forum, we're looking forward to owning a MH soon.

As for the new Globecar, well that is for when we save and trade in. It will happen.... Eventually.

We would love to buy a second hand van but we have only found one for sale in the last few months of the exact model of Globecar we want and it would have been such a small saving on a new one we are about to take the plunge and order brand new. That should empty the bank nicely but what the hell you only live once!

Which model Globecar are you ordering?

You are not the first to comment on second hand prices. Boom time MH. If you can't a good deal second hand then your options are limited.

To show where I am coming from, we bought a 3 year old MH with 4000 miles on the clock though I can't remember the saving because it's tens years on and still going strong at 70,000 miles.

But 'er indoors is telling me it's days are numbered because she does not like climbing a ladder to bed any more. The Elddis 155 is looking good but with a big reduction in storage space compared to our Burstner 530 with it's boot and ski locker.

I don't believe that many vans were preloved, they probably got rid because they hated it. Anyway a pre hated van is still cheaper.

We very briefly owned the Majestic badged version one of those before getting shot of it as quickly as possible.

They look OK, the finish is OK I suppose up to a point as long as you aren't expecting it to be a Concorde but they're absolutely horrendous to drive.

Anything over 40 and the rear sounded and felt like it was shaking itself to pieces. I don't know what the construction process is but the impression I got was decidedly flimsy. I also found out after I sold it that the rear end was wet as well

I took a huge hit on it but I didn't care, it had to go.

So funny but, I know this is true from two friends.
They hated the van, but, when they were selling it, it had all the love hearts and candles from the lounge in it and made up a name for it.

We have found the same thing. I know this is good for people wanting to trade in for a new one but, 1st time buyers don't find it easy.
Hurry up and trade up peeps.

Hello Julie and Charles
We have just purchased a new Globecar Globescout having declared we would never buy a new van, its our fifth and only new van. My wife has just retired ( today ) and on17th October we will be on the ferry to Europe full timing for a few years having rented out our house
We spent months looking for a van conversion, German built under 6 meters automatic with a fixed bed we had seen and liked Globecars but did not like the way that the shower tray extended into the kitchen. However at the Newbury we saw a 2016 model unregistered but with the sliding door on the off side, not a problem for us, and a normal shower. It had an upgraded engine to 150 automatic solar panel metalic paint and a host of other extras for basically the basic price it was on the SMC stand.
They offered us a fair price for our La Strada and a deal was done, we reasoned that we are going to keep this van for a long time so the depreciation was not a major factor, and we were unable to find used model anyway.
We have now done 2000 odd miles and are delighted, would reccomend SMC at Newark Doug Hurrell is your man
We have since seen year old Globescouts basic models no extras advertised at pretty much what we paid for ours
As a footnote we advertised the La Strada on E bay and on the morning of the day we collecting the new van in the afternoon we met potential buyers for our van in the Brownhills car park, they were delighted with the La Strada and a deal was done we proceeded to Barclays Bank the cash was paid into our account and the lovely couple dropped us at SMC to collect our Globecar. They were happy to pay us £2000 more than the P/X price happy people all round, except at SMC.
We are delighted with the build quality no rattles or squeaks lovely engine and autobox and still discovering extras we did not know about.
Hope you find a Globecar used at a sensible price.
Good luck and happy travelling
Clyde and Chris

We bought our Campscout from SMC through Doug Hurrell, and we're really pleased with it.

Our fridge did not work correctly from day 1 but SMC changed the fridge for a new one quite quickly.

There was a scuffed graphic which I reported next day, and was told it was on order from Germany.

I ordered our van with a DAB media system with sat nav and reversing camera, when we got the van home I discovered that the system was not DAB. SMC said they would fit a DAB module to rectify this.

I had started to give up hope with the graphic and the DAB radio, but today out of the blue SMC phoned me and said that the parts had arrived and my van is booked in for next Wednesday to be sorted.

John.

PS enjoy your new Globecar @C+C

Clyde and Chris.

Thank you for your mail.
Your MH sounds perfect. We hope you have a great trip.

After viewing lots of pre loved and rejecting all of them because they weren't, pre loved that is.
We also found out you can put a registration number in online MOT register, we did this and most of the stuff we read filled us with horror.
So, we are going to continue saving and get a new one.
Like you, we aim to keep for a long time, we always look after things we buy, depreciation won't bother us at all.
Funny to see you sold at Brownhills, bet that's the best buy anyone has had from there.
We met a lovely couple there a couple of years ago, they had a van conversion and a Staffie ❤️ and we were tempted to leave them out number but, we hadn't sold the caravan then. Maybe we should start a trend of taking a van we want to sell to Brownhills car park.

Have the best time
Julie
