I found this quite by chance. A new 500 place motorhome parking underway at Mazarron (Camping Bahia). The video is in German, well they would be the first to find out, wouldn't they 🤣

On the bottom left of the multi coloured schematic drawing of the proposed site there is an expected date of opening of 01/10/2025 and the narrator mentions October so perhaps ready for next winter?

If its run like the big one behind the garden centre on the road to Mazarron it should be a success!

Good to see that something like this can be brought into being so quickly..
Mazarron council needed to act to curb this overcrowded municipality....their weakness is quite evident, after all they have control of local policing, made local laws which became regional, but failed miserably to implement them...
With the proposed opening of a new camperstop they should be able to knock on doors and move any motorhomes that are in breach of the law and encourage the motorhomer to use the new facility......or can they?

Looks like another sardine campsite to me. I certainly wouldn't want to be on there if one caught fire! Chain reaction springs to mind. Just keep fining the ones displaying camping behaviour and if they can't set up their free campsites they might go elsewhere for the winter and leave more space for the FLT's that park and abide by the rules.

Suppose that's how it is here in Spain, as for fining the illegal campers...well that's a major issue , that takes manpower and is a draw on the resources...I would prefer the Police to be doing other tasks other than door knocking and collecting money from people who shouldn't be their in the first place...lots of threads all saying the same thing...Spain should build more campsites and camperstops... well they are...but the visitor numbers increase every year..
Someone has looked at the situation carefully before deciding on how big a place is required to house all the campers here in the winter..500 places available...good start I say...might be the start of even more cropping up and if you don't like these places, don't go.
I'll tell you now, the other two Mazarron camper parks are rammed in winter..
Filled with Northern European visitors who appreciate the improved winter climate that Spain provides...many just sit by their van all day...if that's what they want... Mazarron are going to provide just that...😆☀️🇪🇦

Very well put, Martin.
So is this new place a municipal iniciative then? If so, let's see if it attracts and pleases some and what impact it has on the environment and the behaviour of others.

It doesn't have to be like that, they use their recorces to clear these places but everyone has to go! even the minority that are complying, then they let them fill back up. If they keep on top of the offenders by fining people that stay more than a few days even confiscate anything outside the van and keep at it for maybe a month I think they will get the message that parking is ok camping isn't.

As yet we don't know who is building the area. I found the video totally by chance when looking at some of the flooding videos. Later this Spring, when there may be more built, we'll go and have a look and, if there's anyone around, we can ask what the project is.

Hi waiting to see if it's Municipal or Private...or even a joint venture...
I'm confident that it would be a great success...it location doesn't look the best, but prime location land isn't going to be used for these projects..
In fact knowing this location leads me to believe that it provides a good alternative...a Shopping Centre including restaurants, beaches and town centre are a short bike ride away....also looking at the proposed plan, on-site facilities look interesting....

It's strange that as numbers have increased ten fold or more, less policing has been done. We used to be amazed at the huge number (15-20 😂) we used to see on many of the popular areas, who had crept back on after the police had cleared them.

Now there are 150-200 on some areas, nothing has been done for the last few years. There has to be a breaking point sometime, maybe this is Mazarron's start point 🤔 or maybe we'll still be saying the same things over the coming years.

We noticed quite a lot of new small stops / camper places in el Campello.

Very easy flat walk to commerces, bars and beach.

It seems to have cleared the streets of free campers

I hope some other Autocaravannas Aires are created in all the Costas…

My concern is it’s a precursor to a ban on overnight parking; easy to argue they have a solid case as there are now enough ‘site’ facilities provided in Mazzeron

I agree completely WRT to Police Local enforcement. Used to be a regular and pervasive presence in popular park up locations, now rare visitors. I guess other priorities or they are completely overwhelmed by the volume of N European winter tourists in MoHo’s now!

I’m noticing a change in Campsites pricing policy too. Where Sept/Oct to Easter was always seen as ‘off peak’ it sure ain’t anymore and the campsites are capitalising on this demand and tariffing accordingly.

We too hope that this may be a start, and the current situation becomes more manageable....only time will tell..
Spain has a fabulous network of camperstops, most free some with electric too, we used these locations throughout the year, but not Mazarron, it's 25 minutes from our apartment...we will leave these places for you guys..
In response to the comments about Spain needing to build more Campsites and Camperstops...perhaps the UK could do the same... we've stopped going to the UK during the summer, we find the number of affordable motorhome locations to be somewhat restricted....the Aire/Camperstop network needs a big improvement too.🤔

I can see loads of positives here and welcome more places to go, but it’ll not be the best view parked at the side of the very large greenhouses.

Still it’s another place to visit so I see that as being a good thing especially if we don’t and 500 do as that’ll possibly free up more spaces for us to go to 👍👍

Its two brothers that are starting it up,friends of mine went to see it 2 weeks ago on a day out from Los Alcazares.
They said it looks promising and spoke to one of the brothers who seems to be keen to make the place very welcoming.
Hopefully it's a success for them👍.

Cheers Cris 🍻
