New Italian rules for rear mounted items signage

Just seen this on the Carthago newsletter about new signage rules. Didn’t entirely understand the mention of not taking your bikes on the back though. But sounds like you need 2 warning signs now if the bikes are the same width as your vehicle.
 
I think I would be inclined to get a trailer board and hang it on the bikes you would then have all your lights visible😊👍

You have always needed two in spain under those circumstances.

But would still be illegal in Italy under the new rules as it states that boards are still required even with a rear marker board/lights etc; UNLESS it is a towbar mounted bike rack

Good information and glad we use a towbar mounted rack. And speaking of which, I have a once used/as new Thule EasyFold XT 2 bike towbar carrier for sale in the classifieds!
 
Our lights are visible with the bikes on, but they are the width of the van. So I guess just need 2 signs.
 
Then it goes on to say 'if the load sticks out to the side beyond the width of the rear lights it's illegal in any case, signs or not'.....or words to that effect.
