New Ferry From Poole, Dorset To Tangiers, Morocco?

Hi, Are there any updates on Ferries from Poole o Tangier Med?
It was never going to be a ferry service, purely freight, plus it was concocted by someone's fertile imagination. A bit like Euroferries.

We ve been to Morocco 4 times now. can't really see the problem with driving it. We normally go via the tunnel but if you fancy enjoying a bit of Atlantic swell you can cut the corner off by going to Santander.

The only reason would be to avoid crossing boarders with all he fuss and uncertainty of covid restrictions, testing and vaccinations...Ten day quarantines etc.... the added cost .....a test in UK before entering France and two tests in France...same again when entering Morocco for two people...at average cost of £180 each test...
Has anyone done the math yet? £180 x 2 people x 3 tests x 2 boarder crossings....there is also ten days self isolation if it stays Amber.....if Red you pay for 10 days in managed hotel of their choice,,,,,traffic lights are changing all the time. those who went to Portugal when it was classed Green had to return in panic when they changed it amber....

Forgot to add the return trip..... £180 x 2 people x 3 tests x 2 boarder crossings x 2 for the return trip....
it would be cheaper to take a ferry direct if there is one....
my calculations for he above is more than £4000 plus time and money wasted in ten day quarantine

I am sitting here getting all excited, who am I kidding, we’d only go on an organised tour! This is when we know that with our completely and utterly useless DIY skills we’d be too far outside our comfort zone unless escorted, much as I’d love to visit Morocco. I will just reread other people’s adventures and live vicariously. I seem to be doing a lot of that, doesn’t top up my tan though.
Within five minutes of ha ing any problem in Morrocco you will have someone there to help you or will know someone who knows how to help you..You hardly need breakdown cover there.BUSBY

I wonder when adding up all the costs of doing this for the winter how it would compare to flying to the Canary Islands and renting an apartment, with a flushing toilet, dishwasher etc etc.

Don't understand the comments as it's not a passenger service and was never planned as such?

I thought they was on about a roll on roll off service, never read it all as would never be using it

What about medical care busby. Whats that like?

Clearly. This new route is freight only. But if its a RoRo, it could become a combined use boat in the future. That’s what our ambassador is suggesting in the report anyway. You never know.

Not a clue on medical situation I am afraid.BUSBY.

They're using a RoRo not a RoPax. If, in time, they do offer a pax service it'll take 3 days to get there and be 1 sailing per week.

After the debacle with UK folk trying to get home from Morocco last year when Covid shut everything down I don't have any confidence in whatever this guy says. Passenger service? IMO it ain't gonna happen!

What will end up being available will be driven the most part by financial considerations I would suggest :)

Yes , Brittany ferries use it to go to Cherbourg. It’s lovely. Only an hour from us.
It’s only 2 minutes away from me but as I have to travel in school holidays the cost is sadly prohibitive. Otherwise it would be awesome.

It's not a ferry, it's a dedicated RoRo freight service sailing once a week.

Good news that the route has been opened up. You never know what additional service they could add to this route in time.

Lets hope the freight operation proves to be viable.

Doesn't P&O?have a couple of ferries for sale, previously used out of Hull?
Not sure about their size though
, PRIDE OF YORK and her part sister and operating mate PRIDE OF BRUGES have been sold to a subsidiary of MSC. They will sail on the Napoli – Palermo route for Grandi Navi Veloci (GNV) as GNV

I wonder what freight comes up from there, I know a lot of salad stuff is grown there but what else is there that come up

Must be plenty of it or the ship would not be sailing.BUSBY.

Oranges, tomato's, dates etc. Says management!

If they ever introduce a passenger service it would be a good choice especially if they have a stop in Portugal in route I travelled on the Eagle from Southampton a couple of times in the 70s to Tangier nice relaxing route as long as the bay behaves itself.

It's the fresh food. The U.K buys more of the stuff from Africa than it does from the Netherlands... and we get more mushrooms from Holland than we do from Ireland now. The Ozzies are spending millions in Africa setting up fruit & veg growing and distribution.

Why does everyone worry about the Bay of Biscay when it can and often is, worse in the channel? No one ever mentions the Med' and it's the roughest sea in the world.

What's your evidence for that interesting claim?
