New disabled parking badge - a problem?

You got proof of the illegal use. Or just guessing
If they have replated ,or purchased, a spanish registered vehicle they cannot use a foreign blue badge.
They would have to apply for a spanish one. You can't use a foreign badge with a vehicle you own unless it is a hire car.
Just as an aside why do we need 60 disabled spaces per floor in the airport multi storey? 30 on the 'A' side & 30 on the 'B' side on each floor? Never seen a spaniard with a disabled badge ever & I look when walking the dog.

Unfortunately the culture in the U.K. is “Me Me Me” I see hundreds of people abusing the blue badge and before I get the “invisible disabilities brigade” it takes one to know one.....

Any supermarket car park disabled spaces is like Buellers day out, full at most times of the day yet you’d be hard pushed to see anyone in the shop that you think needs one.....

I drive around busy car parks in Europe and can almost guarantee a disabled space that’s empty.....

for me, its not the position of the parking space, its the space it provides...

I don't think it is your place to decide if someone "needs" a blue badge, that decision is taken by someone with the facts and not just an uniformed opinion. Do I sound harsh, you bet, "I can't see why you have a blue badge, you look OK to me" you should be ashamed of yourself ...

I have relatives who have had blue badges. I don't begrudge them having the badges if the wide bays, closeness to entrances etc helps them go about their everyday lives but I don't see why they should have free parking.

Yes but that is in the UK, whereas many who have them if they applied in spain would be laughed out of the door.

Personally I struggle now with the fact that they are now dishing them out in the UK for anxiety, depression etc; Why does that warrant a disabled space?

gus-lopez I don't know why they are given out. It's not my decision or responsibility, I don't know the difference between criteria in France, spain or UK, I simply assume that someone, somewhere, using specified criteria for the issuing office have checked that there is a right. Be grateful if you personally don't have need for one, that you are in good form.

TheTwoOfUs I agree and certainly here in France a blue badge gives one priority parking places but NOT free. In France, blue badge holder, irrespective of vehicle driven have to pay for their parking at exactly the same rate as able bodied souls, and so it should be.

As an aside to the blue badge rights, here in France at supermarket tills, you will see priority tills for disabled, pregnant and young families. At these tills, a blue badge holder, on presentation of their blue badge, can go directly to the front of the queue.

The blue badge scheme is more international than just European, for that reason I doubt if it will alter.

I often wonder, just how many Blue Badge Holders, actually read the "rules" that are issued with a Badge?. When my wife had the first of her now many operations to correct damage done by the Medical profession when she was a child. (very long story). She was issued what then was an Orange badge. There are quite strict rules as to their use. including NOT parking where there are "loading" markings. NOT causing obstruction, NOT restricting access. And many more. As she regained some more Mobility, she was so "chuffed" at being "mobile" she actually handed the badge back!. It was only after the 3rd operation that the post operative complications meant she was pronounced unable to return to work!!. And then acquired the (now Blue) badge.

As for using it Foreign Going, We used it in Europe on holiday, As well as Places as far apart as Hong Kong! and The USA (all 27 states, we visited) More than once we got a discount on Camping too!. .

There is a lot of Abuse, and I have reservations about to recent expansion of the parameters. It was issued originally for people with limited MOBILITY, who have walking issues, Or those who`s mobility is limited by a disease eg COPD, or where a passenger needs to use a wheelchair . Not IMV, so Mums can take badly behaved kids to the shops or school!.

I would GUARANTEE that the vast amount of GENUINE users, would trade the Badge For health and Fitness!. We have friends who are still able to travel virtually unrestricted. My wife cannot get Travel insurance AT ANY PRICE due to her condition(s).

As for parking charges, I have no real qualms about it personally BUT I do know of many who would struggle to pay. "Benefits" are not quite the panacea the media would have us believe.

I can assure you that having spent 42 years in a wheelchair and worked with people with varied disabilities probably gives me more experience then someone in an office staring at a form stating “Facts” ? from half the fiddlers trying to get something for the price of a few fibs and exaggerated answers while walking with a crutch When it suits them....

Do I think it’s my place to decide if someone “needs” a blue badge..? You bet, I will report anyone that I think is abusing the blue badge and the benefits they obtain with it.... it’s my civil duty.

and if I look ok to you..... I thank you for that...?? There a few that will disagree with you...?

am I ashamed ..? No, but I’m quite capable of shaming myself....?

Irrespective of how long you may have been disabled, you still have no right to make uneducated judgements on others, you will because that is you. I do however agree with reporting misuse, but, not, attempting to make a diagnosis of someone else when I am blatantly incapable, but, that's me.
