Need a new Compressor Fridge in Spain… Ammonia/Vinegar fridge smell - now not cooling! 🤬

Ours uses between 25 to 35 a/h per day depending on ambient temps

I converted our 3 way fridge to compressor, the best thing in the van now and not silly money to do. I also fitted an electronic controller and an old style mechanical thermostat as back up.

Edit: I didn't need buy any LPG for 3 years after 😁

Also found a Leisure battery power supply behind the existing fridge with decent size cable so will probably use that for the power supply.
Ours 7605 is the previous model to yours Harvey, which has a permanent 12v feed from the batteries, as well as a D+ feed.

Having changed a few items as well as the PCB over the last 5 x years, I have often thought about it's replacement when it finally bites the dust, and a look at ordinary domestic Fridge/Freezer units running off an inverter looks quite favourable, as highlighted in a previous post above, especially with a large lithium bank and solar.

Good luck with your changeover to the replacement unit. 👍

Cheers,

Jock. :)

Yeah considered a domestic appliance approach with inverter, but at least with a leisure fridge, particularly a compressor leisure fridge, one would hope there has been some design considerations to the use case of using whilst driving and consequently extra support/damping for the compressor is built in… probably not! 🤪

Also, the T2610 is a direct replacement for for the existing Dometic, certainly with and height seem identical, so I hope an aesthetic fit will follow! 😇

I did offer the job to Costa Caravannas but their fitted price is 380 Euro more than I can get the Thetford deliver for, so I figured it ain’t worth paying the extra when it’s such a simple job…. Just need to work out disposal of the old unit… 😳

I’ve also found decent sized permanent 12v off the leisure batteries already behind the fridge, so a very simple job! ✔️

Here is a photograph my vents I filled the vents with expanding foam (messy job) then cut a blank to fit and printed some vinal stickers to cover them, look like the real thing if you did not know.

Hi Steve you should have painted the outer frame while you were at it ! That cream outer does not match 😁👍

Yes .scrapyards won't take them around here even with the complete unit removed due to the insulation. we can take them to the council tip though, foc.

Where is that Gus? When the Funster vultures have picked over the carcass of the old one, I may have to take it to one nearest to Mar Menor? Do I need to have residents card or anything? 👍🏻

If you struggle these guys take anything for free. They recycle, strip, upcycle...all.sorts. the amount t of crap they have taken for me is unbelievable.
His name is Javier, WhatsApp him pics see if he will take it. He did take an old Indesit freezer of mine and works all round that area, and accesses all the camps/resorts.

Sorry ,only just seen this. I am in Lorca & it is a council tip they take reg number & what you are dumping but would assume locally to you it would be similar ? Might well be residents only though?

Thanks for the reply… I’ve managed to dispose of it to someone who will be recycling the parts from it… very green! 😇

I realize the OP has sorted it but an alternative approach for anyone in this position again would be to buy a compressor coolbox off amazon.es and have it delivered to a campsite.

Then either keep it or sell it when you get back.

They are not cheap, the Dometic Cool Freeze ones are around €400+ I would guess but they work extremely well. You can get much cheaper electric cool boxes but they use a lot of power.

I was using a compressor cool box (usually the cold drinks fridge but repurposed) borrowed from the garage of the motorhome whilst I waited for the delivery of the replacement fridge! ✔️

Let's us see some install shots keeping it rather low key are you happy with it 👍🏻

Very happy with it Dave, although I find it a tad difficult to get excited about a fridge! 🤪

Tweaked slightly since picture, with some wood batten at the bottom rear to square it off a little…

Tweaked top left hinge and it’s square now…

😇
Bet your gas use has dropped a fair bit, even on our lead batts and uk sun we can manage a few days before they are down. And it wont throw its toys out the pram if its not vertical.

We have been in Spain since 15th of December and used hardly any gas after fitting one earlier this year

Yes John, just cooking now consuming gas… I think I shall be leaving the Repsol bottle and gas connection at home from now on! 👍🏻
