Nationwide Flex Plus account 'perks' - funster experiences

Don’t forget that the ‘bribe’ Nationwide pay you to either upgrade to the Flex Plus account, or transfer in from another bank, will cover quite a few months subscription fee.
Had that previously when we opened our Joint account in the summer so don't qualify again. :(

That's a good point actually - no more cost to open a joint account, you're both then covered for whatever vehicle you're in up to their size limits, not just as a driver either - you can be a passenger in someone else's car. No vehicle age restriction. It includes motorbikes. Plus if someone else is driving a vehicle registered to you, they're covered in it. even if you're not there.
How does that work then? If YOU are covered as the account holders surely the car is only covered if you are in it?

Nope - from the horse's mouth:-

any vehicle registered in the UK, being driven by or carrying the Nationwide FlexPlus account holder(s) or a vehicle registered in the UK and owned and registered to the account holder(s), which is being used by the authorised driver with the permission of the account holder(s)

So any vehicle that the account holders is in is covered, as is any vehicle registered to the account holders, even if they are not driving. The "customer" in their definitons is:-

the person to whom the policy documentation is addressed and who is named as a Nationwide FlexPlus account holder, or who is nominated as an authorised driver by the Nationwide FlexPlus account holder

If a breakdown happens they have to provide:-

If you are the Nationwide FlexPlus Authorised Driver who has been given permission by the Nationwide FlexPlus current account holder(s) to use a vehicle that is registered to the account holder(s), we will need the following information in order to provide assistance: • the full name of the Nationwide FlexPlus current account holder(s), along with their home address, date of birth, and/or their FlexPlus current account sort code and account number. • your full name, You should also tell us the make, model and registration number of the vehicle when you call

You don't need to pre-define "authorised driver" either, it just seems to be so long as they are driving a vehicle registered to you with your permission.

Obviously there are caveats on the vehicle itself, such as it has to have an MOT & tax, be under 3.5t (unless it's motorhome - 7.5t) and there are size restrictions - 8m length and 2.55m width, width is the body width, not to edge of mirrors. So tag axles and RVs wouldn't generally be covered, too long.

I did have their International recovery trying to tell me I wasn't covered as I was over 3.5t when I broke down, but after I pushed back the operator went away and checked and then confirmed that yes I was. One thing you will need with you is the V5 registration document - all the recovery firms in Switzerland and even the garage that did the repair wanted to see it.

Left stranded by AA (Flexplus) @ their agents in unlit dangerous area having contacted them at 10.20pm. They sent a bunch of cowboys as their nominated assistance. Finally told me to wait until 7.45am when hopefully one of their own rescue vans MIGHT arrive. I am nearly 80.
Total bunch of wasters compared to the previous Green Flag assistance.
That's the way it goes I'm afraid
Every chances you would have got the same cowboys if you had still been with Green Flag.
I have a friend who runs a recovery business and is an agent for most AA, RAC, Green Flag etc
