Hi All,

I am considering signing up for the Nationwide Flex Plus Account that gives you breakdown cover, travel insurance and phone insurance cover for £13.00 p/month

I have heard that there are a few people on here that have these accounts and would like to hear their thoughts good or bad about the cover and is it worth it or better off looking elsewhere?

I am looking to travel into Europe on a few occasions this year so on the look out for some sort of cover.

Eight Years and 28,000 Miles.
We have a Flex Plus account, well worth the money just for the breakdown cover with four vehicles, though the account holders are covered in any vehicle they are travelling in I believe.

The travel insurance is also very good, though it's changing from UK Insurance to Aviva, so that's an unknown quantity at the moment.

Also no transaction charges at European ATMs... there's other benefits too.

Few years now
We have had a Flex plus account for about 8 years. Used the breakdown twice and travel insurance once. No complaints here.

The phone insurance is good too - as I can say because I got my iPhone wet a few years ago, & they just sent me a new one!

Fine for the travel insurance if you are within their age limits. Can't remember what they are though just now.

Race van, eh? There's a size limit on breakdown cover.

Thanks for the replies.

Do any of you have joint accounts with them? If so any implications and is it still £13.00 p/mth for both?

TA Steve
We have a joint account and the £13 covers both, we paid around £250 extra for the health insurance but it includes the over 70 cost, extended to 90 days cover and some medical issues including high blood pressure, Lupus

Yes, we have joint account - both covered for everything for the same £13, including any car either of us travels in!

Yes. Any vehicle that you own whether you are in it or not:

We don't pay any extra and we both have declared medical conditions that are covered.
Our travel insurance policy with Staysure was going to go up to £550 per annum so decided not to renew and look elsewhere. I couldn't believe we didn't have to pay any extra with Nationwide especially having the bonus of all the other extras that are also included in the policy.

3 years 30,000 miles UK and Europe.. Campsites and off Grid.
Travel insurance is 31 days limit. You can buy an extension for longer periods but when I looked into it for a 60 day trip it made it very expensive. I found it cheaper to have separate travel insurance which covers 60 days and breakdown cover with my motorhome insurance company. Yes there is phone cover but I wasn't really bothered about that.

And here are plenty of fee free debit/credit cards that don't cost a monthly fee. ( Including nationwide themselves)

I am sure it is a good account if you want everything in one package but it's not the cheapest option out there.

P.S. I do have a nationwide account but just the plain free version.

This is what we paid last year, I believe when Aviva take over from UK Insurance, there will be no extra charge for over 70s..

The downside is that if trips exceed 31 days an extension will have to be purchased for every trip and not one extension covering all trips valid for 12 months. I’ll have to work out if the over 70s benefit cancels out the additional cost of the trip extensions.

I'm going to open one of these accounts as well. The motorhome cover is better than the First Direct cover as it includes over 3500kg and also covers motorbikes. Also £2pm cheaper!

From May 1st the travel insurance is changing to Aviva, and there will be NO extra to pay for over seventy's.
