National Trust take over campsite

Indeed you can see Sellafield site from the top Ollie. It was one of our lunchtime ride outs from site on good weather days. On wet days we could ride up or down the coast. On windy days we stayed in the canteen.

I used to live near LD, went there nearly every weekend climbing or walking the hills.
I went 2 years ago with 3 mates on motorbikes as I now live up in the Highlands and 1 lad hadn't ever been to the LD.
We stopped off at Ambleside, (in June) there were 4 bikes and we had a helluva job parking even in the large car park. The lad who'd never been wondered why we went as it was impossible to move about and getting a seat in a cafe was nigh on impossible for the 5 of us.
I will never go in a MH though, not worth it, too many other places to visit without the hassle.

Did Hardknott and Wrynose in my Triumph Herald fifty years ago when it had a lot off gravel. Did Hardknott in my 5.4 metre PVC last year. The inside of the hairpins are always damp and the wheelspin makes them very hairy! It is joint holder of steepest road in England (Britain?). Give it a miss. The Pass of the Cattle (Applecross peninsula) is a doddle by comparison, especially since it was widened by 4 to 6 inches last year.

In our yoof, we used to ride up from Yorickshire for the day and hoon round the lakes. Hardkknott Pass was often in the route, and unsurpringly, more than one dopey yoof fell off ;)
