Did I read somewhere that the NT will allowing overnight stops in some of their larger car parks for their members? Think we might join this year if this is correct. At £120 for two is I consider a little high but if they allowed overnight May we’ll join.

Always worth asking the one you are intending to visit, some say yes some say no, some will point you to a nearby CL, each NT property has differing circumstances,
Had some great overnights where we have been allowed.

Joint membership is indeed £120 but you might qualify for a seniors discount.

I pay £4.80 a month.
Don't think it helps unless you have been a member in 5 out of the last 10 years. Can't you get around it joining the NT in another country think I read something before

Scotland has a cheap rate for over 60's you can get straight away. Officially it does not give you free parking but the couple of years I was a member I never got charged.

If you do join, ensure it's on the 1st of the month, that way you get 13 months for the price of 12
We signed up last November but only 'join' on the 1st of April 2021

(Yes I know, it's in the future, but we have the cards now, but it means we are not paying for access when nothing is open, but we still have access, and only pay 2020 prices)

I think the price to stay overnight which they were proposing was ridiculous though, there was a thread about it a month or so ago.

As they don't charge members to park during the day I would expect it to be free overnight as it's not costing them anything and encouraging more people to join.

This is the thread

I agree but this is the NT we are talking about. No way will that happen.

I am not a fan of the NT particularly when I found out the salaries paid to staff, verses the directorship level of rewards.
Maybe against my own self interest, however might I suggest investigation of alternative options, and members Investigate my assertions not go by my say so.

Take a look at New Zealand National trust membership it’s cheaper than Uk and it gives you access to Uk including Scotland NT properties along with English Heritage which is more than English NT offers.

Just got our new cards through with a notice that our £90 renewal cost can be paid by 12 payments of £7.50.

Last year we only used one of their car parks twice for a couple of hours and on three occasions rang three of the trust’s properties only to be told that we would have to book, on all occasions the dates and times were in no way convenient.

We are seriously considering not renewing, we have belonged to the trust for many years and the amount of times we have visited gardens/historic houses it would have been financially more beneficial to us to have paid per visit.

We did manage to get one night at Stour Head in their CL but have tried others with no success due to others booking months in advance. However if this does prove to be correct in being able to use some of their car parks I may not renew now but wait a few moths to see what happens when we get out of this “ Chinese “ mess

I have last year's edition if you want one,
PM me with full name and address,
Will need to dig it out.

National Trust is a charity and protects much of our heritage and land from going to ruin or development. Why on earth do people want reduced membership and overnight stays for nothing. If you are going to donate to charity donate otherwise why bother at all. While I may not like all of their policies, I am quite happy to pay full whack and to pay a resonable charge for overnight parking in support of what the Trust does.

I hope that’s not directed at me! I have been a member for many, many years and have continued to pay even though I can’t go anywhere. It was NT who offered me the age discount when I renewed a couple of years ago.

Heritage New Zealand have changed their rates for non New Zealand addresses so joint membership for sending to the UK is NZ350 a year £184 but it does cover access to NT and English Heritage to crack down on misuse.

For comparison that is the same rate for 5 year membership for those with NZ addresses.

EzzzRider, if you were aiming at me then I am quite happy to accept your view of my comment.
I was not aware that I said that I was looking to stay in their car parks for nothing,I like probably many others would be quite happy to pay a reasonable amount, it would enable us to have somewhere different than being all jammed together in commercial or club sites.
I have had my wings clipped somewhat this year so the £90 for the membership renewal could usefully be spent more wisely.
I have given some of my commercial tenants rent free period or 50% reductions to get them through this difficult times and if I choose to be charitable to them instead of lining the pockets of the over paid directors of the NT then that is how it is.

There have been a few mentions of a positive response from the NT on the CAMpRA Facebook site but there's too many alerts so I only check in occasionally.

If the NT stuck to care-taking the properties instead of spouting on about the evils and shame of those same properties’ founders, I might rejoin.
Sadly I fear it will be a long time yet.

From memory there is a campsite at Stourhead which I think is C&CC or the other one. It's not cheap and you have to book months ahead, and then run the risk of the weather being naff the whole stay. There is plenty of space in the car park, but I guess they would see it as competition for the camp site.

No, Heritage NZ membership costs $200.
