National Trust Car Parks

Noted...... but I was enquiring on behalf of my son who is a NZ resident . Not taken as rude but thanks anyway

I have been advised by the NT that our son, who lives in NZ would have to pay for parking here in NT properties although access to NT properties would be free if he is a member of the NZ NT.

Yes it is the QR code the pay and display machine scans. Unfortunately these machine is very fussy how you present the card, I've given up on a couple of occasions

Andrew

I looked at joining the Scottish National trust but it says the reciprocal arrangement does not cover parking, whether the parking attendants enforce it I don't know but I did end up buying the English one as I am very obedient to rules.

We are NT members and have a window sticker that will do most times for free parking where there is an honesty box - as said some now have parking machines which can scan cards but beware some do have time limits on them. If you have more than one vehicle when you are at a NT property ask at information and you can collect more window stickers foc on production of your card.

Not all sites can issue the extra stickers and I think they are not going to be issuing any after this year.

Just another left wing pressure group with directors taking salaries of up to £200k out of charitable donations
Bringing in about 500 million a year whilst sat on over a billion in the bank & still pleading poverty :doh:but top table staff creaming thousands in salary's whilst every day volunteers give their time for nowt  Its all for chaaaaarity mate :)

I was told that none of the sites can issue additional stickers and you have to apply to head office for them.

But they are being phased out anyway because of misuse. Instead you can get a free ticket from the parking machine using the your membership card. But that only applies to English NT membership and not to members of affiliated organisations.

National Trust is a charity, looking after the heritage of the nation. You should not try to cheat it out of money.

The NT has changed it's way of money making with the ground rent going up for people who BOUGHT property on leasehold from them up to 1000% the agreed rent,
The Chairman and board of the NT have awarded themselves very high salaries, so it goes towards them personally as performance pay. I can see it dying off soon when the public realise what is going on..

I have been a 'member' of the Bahamas NT and am currently a 'member' of Malta's NT [annual subscription 20 Euro].
I have no problem with this as the NT is clearly aware and are currently comfortable with the situation... and I am complying with their rules.
I spend money once on the property.
Also the property gets £2.50 for each 'member' who enters free - so again not depriving them of any funds.

Car parking is not included in the reciprocal arrangements, but most have been free. However, should I come across one that isn't then it's my choice to pay or not visit.
The only one where I've been asked to pay was Brimham Rocks, but as entry is free to anyone & everyone, I guess this is the only way for them to raise revenue for the site [apart from gift shop etc].

I recall reading [but can't find a link], that membership of the Maltese NT far exceeds the population of Malta!

Hey! I've got a brilliant idea.:):)
Why don't we get our Ringleader Jim to set up a Maltese branch of Funsters so that we can get it cheap. Good idea?????:D:D:D:D

We had our cards replaced as the qr was unreadable. Might be worth a call to nt?

Thanks, I'll try another machine and If I still have the problem I'll do just that

Mine was also replaced as it wouldn't recognise me when scanned and the replacement is just as bad ... I think the NT has a problem with their software.

The printing on my card looks fine and my phone scanned the qr code first time. Hope their car park machines can match the performance.

I think it may be the machine requires the card presented quite precisely. We have got ours to work but you have to fiddle about quite a lot a hold the car slightly higher than the bed of the slot over the image that is shown

Andrew

I think it might be the printing - ours looked very blurry.
Mine are clear enough and both scan on my phone app ..... the only thing worries me is that they show a date which is about ten years ahead and mine is a life membership ... I hope it's not my expiry date unless they know something.:Eeek:

Have mentioned this before but have contacted the NT about making overnight parking available at suitable sites as a small overnight change would help to create some more income. They informed they had no plans to allow this, they do as said above have a couple of site where you can stay as we did once. Seems such an easy way attract more members from the Motorhome family. Maybe more Motorhome Fun Members could write to the NT and see what happens
That see but that don't listen that her but that don't see thay speek but no one listens
So in other words you won't get any ware watsoever
That get far too much from the government I thinks
It would mean work that don't want to do that
Bill

Nobody mentions it but can you use the car parks in your Motorhome while visiting a property?

Can you use the car parks in your MH while visiting their premises during the day?

You often can. It can't be assumed, especially for popular sites with small car parks.

There is even a CL at the back of the Stourhead car park.

In theory, yes. I don't know whether or not any have barriers. Some are very small, some have narrow access.
There's another thread somewhere about NT car parks suitable for large m/hs.

Thank you all for your helpful replies. Sorted.😊
