I'd almost worn out my WR250F off roader by going out every Sunday, so decided to treat myself to a newer bike. Just back from 3 days riding in the Lake District on my Fantic XEF450, great trails, great scenery and amazing weather.

Very jealous, I'm unable to ride [ off road/trail biking] any more due to severe arthritis in the wrist joints, but absolutely loved the years I did spend doing it. Have you heard of the " Vince"? It's a four day treasure hunt/ map reading exercise held every year in the Pyrenese. It's a team event so a small group of mates could go and have some of the best trail bike riding you're likely to experience. I did it with one of my sons, I was on a TTR600 and he used his Africa twin.

So you are one of the guys that turn a quiet ramble in a Dale or Glen into an acoustic nightmare and frighten off the wildlife that we and others came to see and hear.

Try a mountain bicycle - or give up annoying wildlife including people.

Your selfish comment is the other reason I stopped riding and after being physically attacked by an entitled group of " Rambliars" who deliberately and illegally obstructed my freedom of movement by obstructing the whole legal byway, disgusting behaviour by self righteous zealots, whilst at the same time wrecking rights of ways with their huge stomping boots. Many a good footpath wrecked by them, repaired only to be wrecked again at a cost of £thousands, but that's O.K. because its for them. Motorcyclist pay road fund licence to use legal rights of ways, Rambliars pay nothing, but want ALL councils road repair budgets spent exclusively on footpaths.

I’ve always enjoyed reading your posts but must say that I’m somewhat disappointed by your sleight on others who indulge in a perfectly legal leisure pursuit. The use of BOATs by PTWs is an entirely legitimate activity and all shared space users should respect the rights of others to utilise those spaces.

Now why couldn't I have put it that succinctly???, well done.

PTW?

After banning motor bikes it will be mountain bikes and then dogs, noisy children ,people wearing bright clothes………..and there will be just one very selfish person left with the whole trail to themselves…….enjoy👌

And tour in others. The same noise pollution applies, often exacerbated by illegal exhausts, which are rarely prosecuted.
Others may well argue that another minority group, [ motor home owners] should be explicitly banned from parking their motor homes any where other than dedicated high fenced in compounds due to the vans spoiling the ambience of an area??
Having served many years on Rights of way committees for Surrey C.C. I have litany of selfish tales to tell from the Rambliar community, like
One idiot Rambliar delegate seriously proposed all the Byways in Surrey should have a fence erected down the middle for the full length. Another, insisted a Byway with a bridge on it should be closed to motorcycles, BUT left open for horses, why? Because motorcycles are heavier than horses as horses have one leg in the air at any one time thus making them lighter!!! When confronted with the logic of his claim that so would a motorcycle if the rider popped a wheely, but that was deemed a silly response. After 10 years of listening to such drivel I lost the will to listen and gave it in.
Mike.

My comment was about noise in a quiet environment and consideration for others.

I did not introduce the aspects of legal rights which was introduced by others. Exercising legal rights in some circumstances can be anti-social.

I cannot understand your reference to use of boats by PTWs. I find boats, at least sailing ones, very quiet.

Very nice bike, used to have xr250 but none of us knew where to ride!
Should have joined TRF . In the future I’d love to have another go at green laning.
Even bought a Honda crf250L 2013 but it was stolen.
As far as I’m concerned if it’s legal go ahead.

The Ramblers do pay there taxes as I hope you do.
As a mountain bike rider all I ask is you put the silencer back on you bikes and be tolerant of other legitimite uses. :cycle:

I would absolutely condemn the ILLEGAL use of any vehicle without an effective silencer. I equally expect you would like to condemn the riding through red lights and riding at excessive speed by some cyclist on shared use carriageways where we have had to jump into the hedgerow to avoid some of the head down ares up speed merchants. Oh and PS, I know your lot are next on the target list by the CLA [ Country land Owners Association, for a selective targeted banning from some area's to begin with, again eagerly assisted by the Rambliars, as they did to us , when we lost 10,000 miles of RUPPS [ Roads Used As Public Paths], and many other disputed Byways. The Rambliars kept ALL their 250,000 miles of footpaths, + right to roam areas+ Coastal Path, but still wanted to annex off some of the miserable 3500miles of Byways that Trail bikes are allowed to use legally. The arrogance of the attitude that it's their right to enjoy the coutryside, and it TRUMPS all and everyone else's rights is truly breathtaking. Yes I pay and have paid my taxes, both income, capital gains, and road fund licence, which allowed me to use the machine on any road with vehicular access. How much road fund do you pay to use your mountain bike on the Bridleway network? I was frequently told by equine users, motorcyclist are nearly always polite and pull over cutting their engines off, additionally they would go on to say " we don't mind motorcycles, we and the horses can hear you coming, but mountain bikes arrive suddenly at great speed, the riders are dressed in very bright riding gear which invariably spooks the horses", straight from the horses mouth, so to speak.

For one who has commented on the manner of use of the countryside you appear surprisingly unaware of the classification of rights of way.

BOAT: Byway Open to All Traffic

Ditto,back at you.
As I said in my opening post, I no longer ride trail bikes in part due to the vitriolic abuse I have received whilst taking part in a legal activity, perhaps you need to find some tolerance yourself, your post seems to be lacking in any such sentiment, and riddled with baseless accusation's and assertions, you can't possibly know ALL Rambliars pay ALL their taxes.
As a TRF[ Trail Riders Fellowship ] Club officer, It was my absolute duty to make sure my vehicle was legal, and I acted in a legal manner at all times, despite the provocations of stones being thrown at me, and walkers attempting to poke their walking sticks through my spokes!!!
Mike.

Ban motorbikes ragging it past my house please - nearly all of them are way too noisy and far exceeding the speed limit.

It's going to be a long boring life, if we all get to ban everything other people do that we don't like or do ourselves, unless someone also wants to ban long boring lives 🤷‍♂️

You should ban conversations like this and just all crack on and be nice to each other
Plenty of room for all of us as long as we all have a little consideration for the other people around us

If you want a nice quiet walk why walk on a byway open to all traffic? there are plenty of trails that are not open to motorised traffic. I have also been obstructed by walkers whilst legally negotiating a BOAT in a 4x4 if they had moved to one side we would of been out of there way and gone so they could continue there walk in peace and quiet, instead we had to follow at walking pace for a mile, no skin off my nose, driving slowly is a useful skill to practise.

Ha ha, there's a quote from a famous Roman bemoaning the noise from the road at the front of his Villa, about the oxen bellowing, and the squealing
of the ungreased axles, nothing changes, no Romans in your ancestry are there? ;) :giggle:
